some parakeets talk, but not all do. I found a site (link below) about a parakeet who would hold conversations. This is generally not common and if you can get your bird to talk it will probably only say a few words. I had parakeets and I tried to get them to talk by saying "hello" to them all of the time and "night night" when it was time for bed in the hopes that they would pick it up. however they never did, but pick a word, simple to say like hello, and say it to your bird several times a day and he might pick it up. praise him if he does seem to be trying to say something and give him treats. You will have much better luck if you only have one bird instead of many. It will be more likely to pick up what you are saying, whereas with other birds it will likely just chatter with them.
Good luck :)

Good luck. They usually only wistle(if your lucky) or sing. But I have had o couple say pretty bird. You can only tell what they are saying if you listen closely. Talk to it every day ...maybe leave it in a room with the tv on. My birds learned alot from tv. I have had all kinds and my grandmother breads birds including parakeets(she has atleast 30 of those alone.

parakeets normally arent talkers they will whistle and sing some , you can leave talk radio on in another room while you arent there to help out . it is unheard of but not impossible. also there are cd's that are made for specific bird breeds that can teach them to speak or carry a song

you can teach a parakeet to talk bye repeating words over and over again. My grandpa had a parakeet and he taught it to say "pretty birdie good birdie" you just have to be patient with your bird. always remember to give it toys and give it fresh food and water daily. always remember to change his papers daily
