I am 14 and my school starts early September so I want to get on a sleep schedule, an adult needs at least 8 hours I know that for sure, but how much does a 14 year old teen need? also, if I do not get the amount of sleep I should be getting to I still make myself get up at 7?

Thank you so much, also, if you know A LOT about sleep and sleeping disorders, I would appreciate if I could have you e-mail, or if you do not want to post your e-mail PLEASE e-mail me.

Thanks lots and lots.

Brooke.

Teens need eight or nine hours of sleep a night. They actually need a little more than their younger siblings because they're growing faster. Most of them don't get it. You probably don't have a choice about when you get up at least five days a week, but if you can get to bed by ten on school nights, you'll have an advantage over your peers who stay in a state of chronic sleep deprivation.

I believe that at least some of the school difficulties, emotional extremes, and mood problems that some teens suffer are due to being chronically, constantly tired. You are smart to start planning your life to avoid this.

Wel an average 14 year old should get about 8-9 hours of sleep because if you only get about 6-7 house your body dosent have all of the energy for the next day.

I Can tell you that sleep is necessary for growth in teens. I would say most teenagers this age get about 9 hours. Adults need 7 to 9 hours of sleep. Sleep repairs the body, supports the secretion of hormones, and is tied to the hunger and stress cycles. For information on sleep, you Can look up and find it on any psychology website.

There is a study on this subject, in which they deal between a person sleeping 7 hours and 8 hours. Ironicly, the person sleeping less hours, lives longer than the one sleeping 8.

Our Dr said that 12 hours or more was not unreasonable for our teens. She said it was also not uncommon for teens to stay awake all night and want to sleep all day. She said most teens can't do this because of school hours, but that didn't stop them from wanting to be up all night long and sleep all day. Our kids are home schooled, so they can really sleep pretty much when they want to. I remember having to go to school though and I was just like them, up all night and needed to sleep all day. I think it probably is natural, like it's natural for babies to sleep all the time, too. Our Dr said it's because teens are still growing and developing. Makes sense. Our son is doing it now, but our daughter has outgrown it and can get up early and stay up when she wants to.

Brooke, for starters, now we all now your name and e-mail address....please be more careful in giving out such info....teen sleep patterns change.... i used to stay up until 3 am and get up at 7 to go to school, then at the end of the day i would take a nap and sleep really late on weekends......you may not be able to help staying up late as teens do this naturally, but try to get at least 5 hours and catch up if needed. if you feel too tired during classes go to bed earlier.

They say the average person should get between 7-9 hours of sleep so you should try for some where in that time zone. Hope you sleep well and are refreshed for school in the morning!
