90,000 is BARELY too much for medicaid assistance.

May I suggest overseas investments?

You might be able to get some assistance with Section 8 housing.

You can also get evicted for having too many people in a 2 bedroom apt. The rule is generally 2 people per bedroom.

250 a week for childcare is absurd if it is for each child. You may consider hiring a nanny, live in, and go get a 5 bedroom home or apt, allowing one private bedroom for the nanny, and a weekly pay of about 100- 125 dollars. You will be spending a bit more on rent, but the amount you will save on childcare should make up for it, at least.

Another thing you can do is invest in bicycles, and a couple of good cargo trailers for them. This way you can sell a car, and save on monthly insurance, and gasoline expenses. It also can keep you in great shape, too.
Oh and a kid trailer might help, also. You can also try ride sharing, http://www.craigslist.com
One other thing you can do, that is not incredibly ideal, is to split up the kids, for sleeping arrangements. Do some roommate searching, and see if maybe one of you can share a room with the littler kids, and take them to daycare, or whatever, so that the other one can get the 7, 10, and 13 year olds to their public schools (assuming they are in public school, anyways..)

The 5 year old should be in kindergarten, and the 7 year old in 1st or second grade. That leaves only the 2 year old for actual day care. Yes the 5 and 7 year old need before and after care, but depending on what time school starts, it might be possible to use the schools extended day program, or before care, as that is generally cheaper than the private childcare institutions charge.
If the 13 year old kid is responsible enough, you can have him/her cart the 10, 7 and 5 year olds to their elementary school.

Social Security can also help, too. Go to the SS administration and ask what benefits the kids are entitled to.

Another thing to keep in mind is your food budget. If you can feed each person on 30 dollars a month, you are doing a great job at balancing your budget. I have a son, and we are well fed, but I havent spent more than 50 dollars TOTAL, on groceries in a month, in oh maybe 6-7 months. Also, stop eating out, and turn the cable TV off. All luxuries will have to be cut off, for the time being, just to survive.

I find it hard to believe that you cant afford to get a bigger place, with that much money. Even with 7 people, 90 grand a year is plenty to survive on. You just need to think outside the box, for now.

Good Luck, and I am very sorry about your sister. Thats awful.

http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10084.html this is a link to get death benefits for minor orphaned children go there and see if you qualify as long as she worked at least three years they can get benefits. Now OK let me do the math here $90,000.00/yr / 12 months = $7500.00/month -$1500.00 child sup.= $6000.00 OK these are your available funds. OK, and what is the problem? I am a single mom with four kids and one grandchild my monthly income is$3600.00 a month i have a home with a mortgage of 750/month I pay everything no assistance from anyone u just have to change your way of living to accommodate your new lifestyle. I mean you have $6000.00/4wks for the month $1500.00 allotted rent/mortgage payments according to the housing calculator your affordable housing would be $1500/month for a house. You should be able to afford that with your combined salaries. Budget
housing $1500.00
utilities $ 600 = $2100.00 which leaves $ 3900.00 for food clothing car gas entertainment. You just have to prioritize your necessities it all comes down to wants and needs the needs come before the wants and you deal with it. Have you checked into death benefits thru Social Security for the kids? Since there mother died you might be able to get benefits for them thru there. How about there father can he contribute to there welfare? with your combined income it will be hard to find assistance for you and your husband.. Sorry. .

You should call social services. The children under the age of 18 should be eligible for assistance through your sister's Social Security.
