Have 98 nissan altima with 176,000. Have had recent problems with sudden rough idle with associated smoking. When this happens check engine light blinks. I took to autozone for diagnosis. This came back with several codes. So i changed plugs and put injector cleaner. Car seemed fine, for over a month. Acted up again for one day then seemed fine again. Now is acting up for a third time. So I changed wires dist. cap and rotor, plugs+ added injector cleaner. Noticed plugs had black carbon. This is becoming a frustrating problem. Seems to be a simple fix but I don't want to spend money on hit and miss components that do not solve problem. Any help is appreciated

its not a simple fix, it sounds like your injectors are loosing ground here. there probably becoming clogged and dumping fuel in the cylinders. you described the plugs as carbon fouled which means to much fuel or not enough exhaust. get a exhaust pressure check, anything over 1 psi is bad. also since you cant see your injector spray pattern have them professionally cleaned as its a heavy concentrated cleaner and does alot better than just adding some to the tank. worst case scenerio is you either have an injector going bad or a pcm thats going bad

i might want to attempt some issues earlier I take it in. attempt doing a gasoline injector purifier that may sparkling each and every of the interior parts. you should purchase this at any vehicle shop. it would want to be the intake, yet you'll have were given some undesirable gasoline if this only all started. If that doesn't remedy the placement, have a mechanic verify it out. hard idle can loosen parts over the years and create different topics that could want to fee more beneficial to revive.
