My friend told me she had lost 20+ lbs on Phentermine in the past. So I started taking it trying to lose weight for a) My Wedding and b) to get back to my regular, healthy size. We started taking it the same time and she has already lost 10lbs and I have barely lost 5lbs. Why are all these people having success stories and I'm not falling in that category? :( It makes me real depressed to not see results.

Everyone's body is different. It is about what you eat, exercise and metabolism. Ask your doctor if he/she has advise. I don't believe in diet pills-they are dangerous.

Phentermine is one of the oldest 'diet' pills approved by the FDA and also one of the cheapest. The active ingredient is Phentermine Hydrochloride, and was part of the infamous drug known as Phen-Fen. It is an appetite suppressant recommended for SHORT TERM use by persons who have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 28 (very obese) or more and have not responded to diet and/or lifestyle changes. It's sort of a last-ditch shot at it.

The studies used to approve this dubious drug are sort of a Catch-22. It is supposed to be used along with diet, exercise and behavioral modification. But if you are on a good diet, exercise regularly and are working on modifying your behavior, the drug is probably not needed. It'd be like if you had a cold, and I told you to take this pill, drink plenty of fluids, get lots of rest, and in a week to 10 days, you'll be all better (If you didn't catch this, the pill is not needed because a cold will cycle out in a week to 10 days on it's own with no treatment).

If you check with your friend, I'll bet you find that she is exercising, active and dieting. She could also have a faster metabolism...everyone is different. The kinds of foods you eat have an impact as well. Processed, commercial foods are low in nutrition and high in calories on avg, even though they may be listed on popular diets. Processed white flour is one of the worst culprits, with processed 'whole' wheat flour only marginally better. They are the major contributors to the national obesity epidemic.Try eating salads with sparse dressing, raw veggies and fruit, and especially "super-foods" such as Spirulina and Blue-Green Algae. These increase the metabolism and have the most nutrition per weight of any other food. Also, a 1-2 day juice fast will put your metabolism in 'Afterburner-Mode for up to 10 days, where your body burns stored fat for energy and raw materials. For 24 to 48 hours, drink all the fruit (unsweetened) and veggie juice you want, along with herbal teas. This will also give your digestive tract a chance to 'clean-house', making it more effecient in extracting nutrients from what you eat.

Be sure to see your doctor ASAP if you experience blurred vision, dizziness, dry-mouth, sleeplessness, unexplained irritability, upset stomach or constipation. Also, monitor your pulse and blood pressure closely because Phentermine elevates these, sometimes seriously.

You need to be aware that, as Phentermine is structurally and pharmacologically very similar to Amphetamines, it may cause a positive result in urine screening tests for Amphetamines. It has been implicated in the development of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, a rare, fatal disease of the lungs, as well as Valvular Heart Disease. It can also cause dependence and withdrawl symptoms.

This is not intended as medical advice. If you are experiencing problems, seek the advice of a competent medical professional.

oooohhhh too many side effects with that particular drug. some people have had to have kidney and even liver transplants after taking that stuff. you should try to cut down on sugars and fats. don't cut them completely out because your body needs them in order to function properly. just use moderation. believe me it takes a little longer to loose the weight, but there are no side effects.
