I was perscribed oxycodone recently following a major surgery I had a month ago and I had really bad hallucinations. I was seeing bugs all over my ceilings, my room was spinning and I was just unable to comprehend what my family was saying to me. Of course, I was taken off of this medication immediately and put on a much lower pain killer but it made me wonder if this was a common side effect. This is a drug that is sold on the street, so is this what people are wanting as a "high" because I want to stay as far away from the stuff as I can. My doctors didnt seem to concerned that this was a side effect for me but I can't possibly believe that this is common because it is a popular pain killer.

What people who buy Oxycodone off the street are looking for is the euphoric rush that comes from the drug. The side effects you had are not common, but your doctor probably wasn' concerned because everyone can react differently to medications, since no two people have the exact same body make-up. I take very high doses of oxycontin and oxycodone IR for chronic pain, and I don't get any side effects from the drug at all except for pain relief. I'm not high or sleepy or euphoric, it just makes me "me" again and able to function. When you take a drug that strong for severe pain, the effect is much different than if you take it for pain that is not severe or if you take it and don't have pain. It works in your body differently and can make you extremely euphoric. That's what people are chasing when they buy Oxycodone off the street. That particular drug was probably just too strong for the pain you had, or you may just have had a bad reaction to it because of other medications you may have been on (I'm assuming that you were taking antibiotics to prevent infection after the surgery). If you took it again, it might not affect you the same way.

Oxycodone is comonly know as peccodan or with Tylenol percocet
It is a m mild ot moderate pain reliver often used for pain that does not respnd well to a milder med
it is one of the more constipating narcotic
pain relievers and in most people casues drowsyness and. Somne experince a mild high or euphoira p from it .
otherts are nuseaius and constipated . Most of te side effects occirevwith use over3 days to a week it is not a preffersd druig for long term narcotic therapy . it is the active ingreataint in
OXY _ cContin and is less constipating in that from if used correctly .
IE do not crush it .
Lightheadned ness forit is often cused by lowering your bloold pressure due to it relazxing your . . the Docotr wa notconcerned as it is a xommon side efectandc goes away wth treatment .
Mosat Docotores prefer not to use perocdan or prcocet with Cronic pain poaintients . Ozy contin , MS _ Conmtin and methdone are much safer and better tolretaed .. of all barcotid pain relicrs Methdaone has the least side effects but has the most interactions with other drugs you just cannot wion . ther isalwaysa something .

methdaon usally does not producea high andis slow to work so mant patients do not l like it as much thoughit wroks very well and has a long life with a low side effect profile .
MS _ contin is a coomonc pain med and is a a lngactin Morphine it is somewhat constipating and at frist makes you feel very sleepy but works well for about 6-8 hours .

ITal mthaddone andMS _conin are inexpoensive though mthadone is not radily avialble due to low deamnd ands thestigma as it is also used to treat herion addicts .
But both are much better alternaives if you are going ot be on a pain med for a long time . . if you need a stong fast acting drug for severrpain dilaudid is used iot is very potent . i forgot to mnetion fetnanly patches are used also though they asre falling out of favro as they fall off alot and must be re-placed ASAP . though for many they work very well . as with all drugs none are perfect andall have side effects ,ech of us tolerater them differently

Oxycodone is a narcotic analgesic, a pain pill. If you are experiencing any unwanted side effects, stop taking them, and call your prescribing physician. He/she should be able to call you in a milder medication that will not give you the side effects of the stronger med, or he may have you break them in half, and supplement with 1 tablet of 325mg tylenol, which is the other ingredient in percocet.

I've taken oxycodone with none of those types of side effects. You did a good thing to talk to your doctor. One side effect for me, and it is a common one, is difficulty breathing. Maybe you took too much of an initial dose, you know, "...if one is good, why not two? Or three? These opiates are potentially deadly. Be careful.

unless you were taking a very high dose, or maybe too much, hallucinations are NOT a common side effect...Doesnt mean it isnt a side effect, just not a common one when the medication is used as prescribed. Some people react differently, but I still think your reaction would be considered "rare", not common.

Some people experience what you did, but most people don't. The most common bad side effects I've noticed in people is drowsiness and constipation.

no I dont think its common at all. In fact the most common I think is itching. You just may be one of those people who have a serious reaction to it.
