they last forever! they have a great maintenance history. with proper oil changes and regular maint. should last for close to 300K miles. in fact i have one now with 280K miles on it and it is still going strong..well it is 10 years old, not a new one. but it will not stop going!

Many years. Toyota is one of the most reliable car brands on the market, from any country.

I personally own a Corolla GTS which has lasted for over a *decade* and is still running very well, though it's not as pretty as it once was. :-) I'm convinced I could make it go for twenty years, without much trouble or expense.

Maintenance, as you pointed out, is important. But that car has lasted all those years with less maintenance than I'd have liked to perform.

Great brand.

Toyotas will last forever if maintained well!! (ok not forever, but a long time) My mom has a 97 4Runner that has about 250,000 miles on it and it's still going strong in spite of the fact that she rarely ever gets any maintenance done to it. I have an '03 Corolla with 47,000 on it and it still runs like the day I bought it.

If properly maintained the car will most likely last longer than your father-in-law. Toyota is the best built car in the world. Bar none.

If he follows Toyotas recomended maintenance and drives it normally it will easily last into the 200,000 mile range.

Toyota is the best built car on the planet. Well actually Lexus is but that is the flag ship of Toyota.

I had an 84 toyota truck that lasted over 550,000 miles before I had to find another engine. I drove it all across the country.

With regular maintenance including oil changes, he has a good chance of hitting 300,000. I had a '92 Corolla that went over 432000 miles.
