RE:
What words of encouragement would you write to some one you know that is going to have cancer surgery?

A very difficult question.

I had a mastectomy three years ago (up to press still clear, thankfully). My greatest fear before going in for surgery was the general anaesthetic, I was completely convinced that I would die!! I was also, of course, very afraid of what the outcome might be, i.e. whether the cancer had spread or was likely to in the future, but just before going in for surgery the anaesthetic was way out there in front in my league table of fear.

I would simply affirm how much you care for the person concerned and let them know you are there for them and that they can talk to you at any time about their feelings, about the fears they have, no matter what they are, and that you will listen and support them.

It must be incredibly hard to see someone you care for going through this and I wish you both all the very best.

Good luck.

I am here for you and always your friend. You are not alone and I am available to help as needed. Be optimistic and be brave...we will get through this together. Faith, love and prayer along with good treatment will prevail. I honestly believe in my soul this is going to have an excellent outcome.

Everything is going to be O.K.
The doctors know what they're doing.
I'll be right here waiting for you when you get out.
I love you.
Everything is going to be just fine, you'll see, and then you'll realize that you were worried for nothing. No reason at all.

As a cancer survivor, I would say just remind them of the progress thats been made in cancer treatment, I would not tell them don't worry, It's a serious thing and they are well aware of that,If you love them, tell them. a prayer never hurt's

A simple..."I am here".... will explain it all, but only you know this person, so go with what you feel comfortable with...

Remain a part of his/her life....stay positive and upbeat....surgery doesn't mean the 'end'...this person needs to know that you are there with them for the haul. Best of luck to you both.

There are cards for that situation you can purchase at the Hallmark store. Don't pitty that person. I would wish that person a speedy recovery. That's sound positive and the patient feels like you are positive about the situation. Positive is the key.
