All my kitchen cabinets are ikea. I had them installed about 10 years ago. I never had any problems. They still look like new. We liked them so much, when we remodeled our bathrooms, we used kitchen base cabinets as vanities. We wanted the vanities to be a bit higher. They look and work great there too.
The cabinets are easy to put together and hang from a rail. The trick it to put the rail up level and sturdy.
I would by them again.

It depends what you want. Some people drive Fords. Some drive Ferraris. IKEA has nothing I'd put in my house. Home Depot is a joke (a bad one). Are you doing the work yourself? Find a designer that sells a good line of full custom cabinets. The workmanship is unbelievable. Everything is made to order and they can do anything. I've had pieces made in multiple finishes. For example, we made a shaker desk, with hand-planed doors and cut nails in the face frame. I then had the guys paint the interior in an antique green and stain the outside. You can't even feel where the finish changes. I did a big island, years ago, in dark mahogany, with a painted, glazed back panel. Instead of making the panel a separate part, with moldings at the seams, I had them make one big cabinet. The transition on one end happens on a 45 degree angle. When you run your hands over the seam, you can't feel it. Once you get your hands on real nice cabinets, it's hard to be happy with anything else.

I have Ikea cabinets and worktop. The worktop is made of pressed together square cross-section wood. Water on the worktop has led to splitting, but it is about 6 years old. The cabinets are all fine - drawers still running smoothly with a lot of stuff in them, no fittings falling off or anything like that. Whether I'd shop elsewhere would be a question of money.

I wouldn't buy IKEA kitchen cabinets; I have friends in Hamburg, Germany that installed them in their kitchen and they suck. They appear to be made of chewing gum and styrofoam, and are not sturdy.
I like maple cabinets, faced with any hardwood like oak or cherry or even more maple. The price is comparable, but the quality is a thousand percent better.
