I am not Christian but my religion is similar to Christianity (Sikhism) but a different culture and language. Christian people are actually really nice people and in the bible there a lot of good things. A lot of people say Christian history is untrue! Its not everything they say did happen! And I hate it when ignorant people think all Muslim people are bad, thats not true either!

As Christa pointed out, it seems like most of the people defending Christianity on the net deserve to have mean things said about them. Many, and probably most have that deadly combination of ignorance and arrogance, and I can't see any reason to be nice to people like that.

Now, it's clear to me that these childish Christians here on the net are not completely representative of Christians as a whole. I know quite a few Christians who consistently behave themselves in an adult manner, and who would be appalled at the childish creationists and folks here who attack atheists and Muslims.

I think that what's going on is partly that in the United States, Christians aren't at all used to having their beliefs questioned, and it's a bit of a rude awakening for them when they find that not everyone accepts those beliefs. Since it's the internet, they're not shy about behaving childishly in defense of those false beliefs, and that leads right away to a battle of insults.

Not all christians are nice. Not all non-christians say mean things about them. When I first became involved in the church as a teenager my youth pastor screamed fa*got out of his car window to some men standing outside of a local gay bar...that's not nice. Christians constantly quote the bible in answers to questions that are clearly intended for other religious believers...that's not nice. There are some people in all religions that are just born cruel. The only difference today is that everyone can be cruel to everyone, not just christians burning witches. I don't say these things to be contrary or rude this is just my honest opinion. I'm a pagan and say tolerance is the only answer for all people of all religions.

Some Christians are nice some are not. Some Muslims are nice some are not. Both have unfavorable histories but both have also done some good. If all religious people only followed the good parts of their holy texts...then there wouldn't be much to complain about.

The reason i think that people are so mean to Christians are is that they have been portrayed as ignorant when really there just trying to stand up for what they feel is right. I am a Christian and i just try to love people no matter what they are or who they are, but if they are involved in something i don't agree with i will respectfully and lovingly confront them about it. i just want people to know that Jesus loves them and that they are valuable.
I also have Muslim friends and i know that there not all “terrorist” there people too.

OK - this reminds me of a story from the Bible, Jesus came to a place where the people where going to Stone a convicted woman to death for Adultery and he stopped them by saying
"Let you are without sin cast the first stone!"
The people all stopped
Then this old lady came up from the back of the crowd and heaved a big stone at the woman killing her.
Jesus turned to the old lady and exclaimed "Mom!"

People say mean things about taxi drivers, Germans, politicians, Frenchmen, college students, Jehova's witnesses, the captain of Titanic, the grocery store clerk that gave them the wrong change, the baby in the cinema that cries etc.

Are Christians more exposed to prosecution than other groups of people or individuals? I don't think so.

Not all Christians are mean people. And not all of any religion are bad. Someone who believes strongly about their religion will usually defend it fiercly. Some people just like to push peoples buttons and others want you to believe in their beliefs so badly that it make them furious when you wont.

Because Christians are immoral. Christian doctrine dictates that anyone who does not accept Jesus Christ as their savior will face eternal torture. And Christians support the God who has set out these rules. There's no other way to describe this than immoral. They support a deity who will torture people for eternity simply for not believing in him because of absence of evidence. I would die for Christians, and all people, to have the right to believe whatever they want to believe. But Christians support the notion that, because I don't agree with them, I should be tortured forever. Give me one reason why I shouldn't resent this thinking.

People put down things they do not understand. They don't understand how one can follow teachings which were written so long ago. They don't believe they are relevant for today. They consider themselves to be more sophisticated and not tied to yesterday, because they are so much more intelligent today than our ancestors were. This is not true as there were intelligent people on this planet long long ago. The bible says there is nothing new under the sun. They also don't understand that it isn't head decision but one of faith and the heart.
