The one really cool thing would be is electronic radiology images. What I mean is, when a patient has an X Ray done at one place, they would have to check them out of that place to take it to the next (doctor's office). What would be nice if they could download these images into hospitals database, that way whatever doctor even across the country could access and provide their diagnoses. The main issue would be database security, but I'm sure that can be fixed.

Try looking on uptodate, pubmed, or webmd.
A comment on another person's answer; there are electronic images available. Some hospitals have what is called a PACS system, where you can look at an image of an x-ray on a computer screen instead of having to look at the original film itself.
Another comment: the reason why doctors don't pay much to lab techs is because doctors don't get paid much to do the labs themselves. There are some insurance companies that pay the doctors less than the cost of the lab procedure itself, so the doctor ends up losing money if he or she does the lab in his or her office. Many doctors have quit doing labs in their offices for this reason.

Most doctors want the fanciest most up-to-date sophisticated laboratory analyzers they can get that will perform blood counts, chemical analyses and urinalysis testing. However, they are only willing to hire untrained off the street maybe high school graduates to work and use these analyzers and will pay a bit over minimum wage to these individuals. Some of the specialists will pay thousands of dollars for a piece of lab equipment and then try to teach the office nurse to run the thing.
