Where can I get some info about electrical power cord ratings, standards etc. without paying U.L. a mint? Hm?

Underwriters Laboratory [U.L.®] charges a lot of money for their standards & ratings, how about related info reference sources for free ?

there is a lot of cord specs in the "NEC 2005" found in good book stores
