A cornerstone of the Derby experience is the MINT julep, the traditional beverage of The Kentucky Derby for nearly a century. More than 150 bushels of fresh MINT, 60 tons of ice and 8,000 quarts of Julep Mix will be needed to make over 80,000 MINT Julep drinks.
Create your own Julep Mix by boiling sugar and water together for five minutes into a simple syrup, cool and add fresh MINT and refrigerate overnight. For each julep, fill a cup with crushed ice, add a tablespoon of the syrup, two ounce of Kentucky bourbon and garnish with a sprig of fresh MINT.
