It's really a pretty simple equation, actually...and it has nothing to do with the actual beer itself. Here it is:
They are the most popular import because they spend the most on advertising.

Most people don't know much about beer, and they don't want to appear totally clueless at a bar, so they order what they know...which is what they get bombarded with in the form of advertising.
Most popular beer in the World: Budweiser. Why? No one who really loves beer drinks the stuff. Because their advertising budget is greater than the GNP of many small countries. They buy the rights to all kinds of sporting events, have all kinds of cool commercials, and proclaim themselves as the King of Beers. What do people order? Bud. Then they drink it and go...eh, this isn't so bad. Then they just keep buying it because it's what they know. To many people, Budweiser=beer. Same with Corona, same with Heineken.

It doesn't matter what's in the bottle, it matters what's in people's heads.

Because it's the cheapest. And that's all that matter to most drinkers, the price.

Yesterday, I bought twelve bottle of a scottish beer from a beer distributor. They cost me $4.50 each. And this beer is a lot better than Corona.

There is a theory that in the late 70s and early 80s corona appeared in several major motion Hollywood pictures. That might have something to do with it.
