When I enter the school building, a black cloud of depressing thoughts fills my mind. I get worried about my grades, and when I’m around smart students, they make me feel stupid. What can I do for the next school year to make myself fell less paranoid and self-conscious? I also hate the fact that we follow the same boring schedule every day and that we don’t do anything exciting, what should I do for the next year to spice up my life? I’m getting really jittery about school starting soon and need some advice to stop the fingernail biting.

Take one day at a time. Breathe and relax. If you think about things all at once it can overwhelm you.

A good way to manage yourself and your studies is to keep a planner. Schedule out times to study or to go shopping etc...

Have you tried to make friends outside of your usual social circle? Meeting new people is always fun and exciting. You can also talk to your counselor. They get paid to listen to you and to help you through your high school en devours.

Why dont you check out some of the different clubs that are offered on campus? There might be things you would like to learn or do with people your own age, AND the bonus is that you can make new friends. You could also try to get some electives that you are interested in like Art, Shop, etc. Also...the ROP program has fantastic headstarts in jobs that might interest you right after high school! You could also try to be a student aide working in the office, library or pre-school program etc. There are a vast array of things for you to do. Check with your school councellor, or keep an eye on your school bulletin or paper for upcoming notices. School is as fun or as boring as you make it. Try to get plenty of sleep, eat a good breakfast, and go in with an attitude like, "Im gonna make this a great day!" Then do it! And hang in there. We have ALL felt like this at one time or another. Good luck!

You can start by trying to make yourself not become enslaved by other people's approval. Hey, I've been there. I took all the Honors/AP courses offered at my school and I always felt stupid when I was around the cream of the crop--alot of them were genuises just by the way they talked--there was one guy in my History class who love to outsmart the teacher (the instructor was a Stanford Graduate) Grades aren't the most important experience in high school, its the effort that you put into your work that counts. You can struggle for a "C" have your own personal criticisms and doubts, but keep in mind its just a transcript--not your life.
