What religion did West Africans of the slave trade have before they were taken? I've heard Yoruba, but are there any others?

Most of the religions attributed to Africa where actually developed after the beginning of the slave trade. Before that time each tribe and sub-tribe had it's own version of deity(s) and spirits. Each differing slightly from the nearest neighboring tribe until over long distances the religions were totally different. there had to have been many thousands of religions there before Europeans came.

Various primitive tribal religions like the Yoruba religion you just mentioned.

Animism, African witchcraft, etc.

Some of them were Christians or Muslims.

lol Yoruba was a tribe not a religion. The guy above me has it right on the money. The religions don't really have names, they are identified by the tribes that practiced them.

many others. africa has many different religions but few are practiced widely since they were christianized. and that was by force.

I couldn't tell you specific names, but Animism and shamanism were quite common. With lots of folk-magic and herbalism thrown in.
