The wandering of the Israelites in the wilderness is symbolical of Man's sojourn on the earth. Man is a nation of nomads, living in tents (impermanent dwellings), never staying very long in one place, but always dismantling his tent and reassembling it somewhere else, leaving the fields he planted behind to others. When his tent is reassembled, he has no recollection of his former place because the inhabitants in the world of the dead have no memory.
In this way, Man is recycled endlessly in the underworld with no hope of escape by his own devices, and he experiences over and over again the "fires" of Hell. He takes down his tent in his hope to escape them, but wakes up again in the midst of them. It becomes a vicious circle, a circle with no end, and the "fires" become known as "everlasting and unquenchable."
Psalm 146:4 gives a perfect and clear picture of what we normally refer to as "physical death.” When the tent is dismantled, the spirit departs and returns to the earth. And on the very day that he returns to the earth, his thoughts, his plans, and his memory of his former places perish -- and he is cast once again into the fires of Hell.

Ok, I've got a few things to say here. Don't get superstition mixed with your faith. Catholics don't believe in reincarnation, but we believe in the afterlife. This means that we believe that we have one chance to live life on earth, and then that's it -- off we go to judgment, Heaven or Hell.
Have you ever noticed that adult humans smile and cry even in their sleep as well? No one's remembering a past life -- they're actually just, well, dreaming. Dreaming is a mixture of logic and emotion in the brain, and while you're asleep, your emotion has much more say over your logic, so you believe in what you're dreaming. That's why if you have a bad dream, you don't always think "Oh, no big deal, I'm just imagining things." Instead, you often feel like it was a real experience, and sometimes its one good enough to bring a smile, while other times depressing enough to make you cry. The same goes for babies.
The reason that babies don't talk is because their vocal cords aren't completely developed. That's why they only cry or laugh or babble -- that's all they *can* do -- physically. Plus, the baby has no knowledge of language yet, and still has to listen to older humans speak so that they can learn how to mimic it. That's why when babies start to talk, they only speak the language that the people around them speak.

well you confuse things - I am persuaded that there is no reincarnation - which is once you die you are reborn into another person - many suggestions abound as to why - to lengthy here to debate - not enough time - simply put it is a belief system - you have to prove it happens or not - I am persuaded it does not - For the Word of God the Holy Bible says that man dies and faces the judgement seat, it does not say he gets a second chance is remade till he gets it right or for whatever reason? On your thinking about babies talking it truthfully depends on their development of the brain when the begin it is different for everyone. Some start talking sooner some later, it has nothing to do with remembering past lives.

In my dictionary carnation means (1) a popular garden and greenhouse plant of the pink family (2)a flesh coloured tint formerly used in painting. (3) moderate to deep red.I can not find the word recarnation but I can find the word incarnation which is meant (1) endowment with a human body (2)appearance in human form (3) any person or animal serving as embodiment of a god or spirit (4)any person or thing serving as a type or embo
diment of a quality or concept
In Islamic teaching we do not believe in carnation or incarnation
as an embodiment of god or spirit. We believe that all spirits of the dead bodies will go to Allah the only one God.They do not come again into this world who is resembled in a new baby. The new born baby will smiling or crying because he/she see something amusing or exiting or frighting..The eyes of a baby can see anything which can not be seen by the old babies.

Um...not true. Babies don't talk until they are two because they don't have the physical or mental capacity to. Children who are taught sign language can sometimes speak as early as 9 months, because signs don't require the complex vocal movements of speech. Children don't have great enough of a long term memory to even remember words until they are 6 months old. After that, it takes atleast 3 months for them to understand the concept of "symbols," something they won't master for another 6 years or so, but the basics of which is vital for any sort of language, speech or otherwise.
Babies smile or cry in their sleep for the same reason we do. They dream. And they have gas. They might just be smiling at a dream about their mommy.

It's pretty cool that as a catholic you are looking into other religions' concepts. Reincarnation is pretty popular in Hinduism and not sure - Buddhism (depends on the form).
Once you got "it" you'll see there is no time, no space and we uhmm...not really. Reincarnation just is a translation of "that" into "our world" here.
So - yeah - there are stories from India where children started talking about events from their former lives which even could be tracked back. Who knows.
The best you have is an open mind, keep investigating and don't get stuck in only one religious concept. You rock!

I do to a point. If you really didn't succeed in the good deeds that you had to have done to make it to heaven, than yes, I believe god sends you back to try to accomplish or learn from the mistakes in life. I was confused too, and I too am catholic. I don't believe in afterlife. Babies talk from the day they are born, its just how we listen to them. But I don't believe babies talk about their past life, they know the secrets of life, yes...they laugh, cry and smile because of the heavens and angels around them. But that is what I believe.

You can not be Catholic and believe in reincarnation. Jesus said, first death and then judgement. When we die, the apostle Paul said we go immediately into the presence of God. People who like reincarnation do not want to face judgement. Also, babies, they smile and cry because of GAS. It has nothing to do with past lives. You need to go back to the basics of salvation and faith and decide once and for all who you will serve, either God or Satan. Satan is out to maim and destroy. Narrow is the way to salvation and wide is the path to destruction. Shame on you for denying Jesus as reincarnation does not include Him.

maybe you mean reincarnation not the flower, carnation.. Anyway, I don't believe in it... I practice a religion that doesn't practice reincarnation...
If you are a Catholic, what's the point you should believe in reincarnation? It is not a practice or the Roman Catholicism, I guess....
Babies smile even when they sleep because as youknow, children are so sensitive.. Some touches would make them smile easily...

The Bible says that when you die you are conscious of nothing at all, yet you can be resurrected from a memorial tomb. If reincarnation were true, then there would be no one to resurrect. You cannot have it both ways. In the Bible God says he knows us even before we take our first breath. If that is so, maybe babies smile or cry because of interaction with God before birth or maybe they are just processing information from the day before in their sleep.
