I agree. I think we should make English the official language and make it required. If I went to France, I would expect I would have to speak French for instance, I wouldn't expect them them to change everything around for Me if I didn't.

Let me tell you something... if you don't have the intellectual ability to learn more than one language, please shut up!!! and get your commentaries to yourself.
I'm a US born citizen, and guess what, I speak French, English and Spanish and actually I'm learning Chinese. Unless you are a Native American Indian, you don't have the right to insult other cultures and languages, because America has been created by immigrants, like british, french and others. We are living in a globalizated World, and we have to find the way to live with that, or we can still blind to those changes.
We need mexicans and latinamerican people to grow up as a great nation. America is not just the USA, it's from Canada to Argentina, we all are America. Don't be s t u p i d, and get back to Africa where you become.

I agree with anyone who would tell you you should learn another language, whether Spanish or anything else. It is a great way to open yourself to another culture and learn. I speak French and English fluently, I can speak German relatively well, I understand Spanish and I've taken Russian classes. Learning languages is a great way to understand how your own language works and where it's coming from. And it's a great way to learn about new people. Not to mention it gives you a lot of freedom when it comes to traveling.
I think limiting yourself to just one language, even one as wide-spread as English, is close-minded. Open your horizons.

Spanish is the language of bull fighters and drug dealers.
There is no academic reason for learning Spanish.
French is the language of diplomacy and finance.
Latin is still the language of law and medicine
German and Russian are good languages
for engineering.
Greek is the language of biblical scholars.
I guess spanish would be helpful
if you plan to only eat fast food,
or supervise coolie labor
in a strawberry patch,
or work with spanish speakers.
English has replaced French
in almost every venue except romance.
In every Asian country -
ENGLISH is what they learn after their native language.
Learning Spanish in China, Japan, Thailand,
Vietnam, Malaysia and on and on just doesn't happen.
English is the language of
International Business and Aviation.
English is used
in nearly every International Business transaction
to negotiate the deal.
International flight crews speak English
because the control towers are operated in ENGLISH.
Any butthole Mexican who comes to the U.S.
and doesn't learn English
is just being an @$$.

Wow; Not this tired topic again!
Hey, racist american guy: you don't have to learn anything you don't want to. Why does it bother you? Do you just not like people speaking to each other in your presence if you can't understand their conversation?
I'm going to guess that you aren't from a very big city.
It's common to walk down the sidewalk in NYC and hear 20 different languages being spoken. I bet all of that ethnic diversity would absolutely drive you crazy!

English only, is the way it should be, but down in Florida where the Cubans live their are no English signs and some have been here 30 years and still don't speak English. I think it's sad what is happening to our country. Maybe this will brighten your spirits. Turn up the sound and make it full screen.

I agree with you 1000%......too bad you can't give yourself 10 points. I speak both French and German along with English (my native language) and have no intention of learning Spanish so I can converse with a bunch of illegals who have no business being here in the first place and should be deported. Let them LEARN ENGLISH OR GO HOME!!!!!

We should learn to speak and read Spanish so we can read all the great books on philosophy, history, physics,
astronomy, economics. etc., written in Spanish by the great minds of Mexico. Didn't you know that?

I agree. My girlfriend's elementry school tried to teach spanish as the first language.
I think that when your in any country you have to learn the language of that country, and the same should be so for the US.
