Everyone always wants to just stick to their religon, and think that's the only way to go. If the muslim, christian and every other religon came together, how far would we go as a world? Is it possible for religions to respect each other and live in peace?

I think there is, and there is a growing inter-faith movement in the U.S. and around the world, especially among Christians, Jews, and Muslims, to seek common ground and work together to do God's will.

There will always be limited-minded people, those who gain great peace in believing we live in a black and white world, and that their religion is the best. But...thankfully, there are many wise, compassionate people who, while they find great connection to God through their religious traditions and beliefs, have a deep respect for people who connect with God in different ways.

The only way we will ever have peace is if we learn to respect each other more, and work together. Thanks for asking a very important question.

The leaders of those "revealed religions" that have leaders ipso facto believe that they alone have custody of the Truth.

So why should they cooperate with anyone who doesn't agree on that point? Ecumenism is popular in some quarters, but it's mostly insincere.

And Islam doesn't have leaders as such. It has respected scholars who, in some countries, have political influence.

And what about all those independent Protestant churches and denominations? Too many self-appointed leaders even to count. Mega-church TV ministers and all the rest.

And then there are those Asian religions...

Over the years there have been conferences along the lines that you posit, but lots of "leaders" wouldn't come.

How are you going to get the politicians to listen to the religious leaders? Especially, specifically, how are you going to get the DICTATORS to listen to those religious leaders?

Of course, here in the USA -- we suck! An interfaith group has gotten together us USA Catholics, Protestants, Jews and Muslims in the "National Religious Campaign Against Torture." They took out a big ad in the New York Times on June 13th.

Here's a link: http://www.nrcat.org/documents/nrcat_ad_nyt.pdf

And here's the organization: http://www.nrcat.org/ad.aspx

The Supreme Court has acted on this torture issue, declaring that torture and detention and delayed trails are ILLEGAL.

So you've got members of all the major religions and the Supreme Court of the United States acting on this issue -- and -- the White House hasn't done anything, people are still being detained in Git'mo and elsewhere.

America itself does not have clean hands on acting humanely.

No. No more than it is to agree with politics.

Look at the US. Bush Bashers. Clinton Bashers. Kennedy Bashers.

You have two choices.

You can RE-ELECT CHAMBERLAINE, who gave Poland and Austria and the Netherlands to HITLER or you can elect the other guy who went to war. What's his name. The Bull Dog.

Sorry, Altsheimer is upon me!

Get the Picture.

You can elect BUSH or GORE

People chose BUSH. Bush chose WAR.

In November of 2008 we have another choice.

The Democrats will take us OUT of WAR for SURE, the Republican, which is probalby Frist, unsure, unless he comes out AGAINST WAR in 2007.

Try and get Arabs or Muslims to REPECT Israel and the JEws!

Just try!

The JEWS do respect the "average" Arab. They employ them, they school them. They DO NOT RESPECT HAMAS or HISBOLLAH.

Many Arabs and Islamics respect America. Some do not, like OSAMA, or the President and Ayatollah of IRAN.

Americans repspect most Arabs. We only invade Afhanistan where OSAMA is and Iraq where SADDAM is.

We let the OTHER ARABS overcharge us for OIL!

Fact, In Saudi Arabia the price of Gasoline is what it was in America in 1980!

That's a FACT

It's under $1

Well under $1

Remember that FACT when you go to the pump and pay $3 or $4

WE LET THE ARABS do that to us and our people.

Is Israel bombing Egypt?

Syria?

Saudi Arabia?

No

Just the countires that KIDNAP Jews!

Israel gave ALL the captured Egyptian land back to Egypt last century.

The ISRAEL leader WENT TO THE EGYPTIANS LEADERS FUNERAL!

He liked the guy or at least RESPECTED HIM

Began RESPECTED Sadat!

The two got togher and agreed on things.

Began was a HARD CORE

Yet he gave in and gave back EVERYTHING to Sadat, after SADAT gave in to Began and Israel!

Wactching them shake hands was AMAZING

And SOME ISLAMIC MILITANT KILLED SADAT FOR THAT ACTION!!!!

Now, where is your respect when Egypt can't respect it's own elected LEADERS for doing the "right thing."

They KILL THEM for hugging Israel!

You support this!!!!!!

No, it's not possible for religions (or anyone else) to respect each other and live in peace. There can be no peace for a world ruled by the devil. Violence in the world will only get worse -- and continue getting worse.

Not if the basic tenet of the religon calls for you to kill the infidels
from the other religon. If you beleive that and then don't practice it
you are not following your religon then are you?

Re: "Seal of the prophets" - I understand there are 2 Arabic words for "prophet". One is what might want to be talked about as a "minor" prophet-like the Hebrew (old) testomony prophets like Amos, Jeremiah etc. and the different "major" prophets alongside with Moses, Christ and Mohammad. The be conscious interior the Quran is the former, not the latter! also, "seal" has more beneficial meanings than "very last" or "very last". it would want to also be utilized in a context like a seal used via a Notary-validating, not ultimate. on the time of Christ, many stated He might want to not be valid because Moses became all they mandatory.

In a free society, yes.

I believe that there are elements of truth in all world-views (and religions).

However, Jesus Christ is the highest, clearest, revelation of God.

I say this with all due respect, with no desire to offend anyone of any religion or world-view.

Cordially,
John

It is impossible with the current religious thoughts of the world. A re-evaluation of beliefs is needed in order for humanity to survive and achieve sentience.

It would be ideal, yes, but perhaps not possible - mostly because of religious fanatics - those of certain religions that become a little too passionate.
