Since you did not state the type of crime a police would interview a person about, detectives will ask general questions such as
where were you on a certain date and at a certain time... Do you know a person by the name of...
Where do you live.....
However, depending on the attitude, body language and answers given by the person being interviewed when answering the general questions, detectives can continue to ask more questions that are not considered general questions.

Simple scenarios questions are common

You live in an apartment. Your neighbor knows you are a cop and comes by to asks you to ask another tenant to be quiet. What do you do?

The good answer is to refer your friend to the local police department. Even if it is in your primary jurisdiction, you are not there to act as private enforcement for your friend. Bad answer is to go over and ask the person to be quiet. You have now used your police power for private enforcement – very bad judgment.

I was asked this same question at three separate oral boards.

Don’t get flustered. There are really no hard and fast answers. Use common sense. They don’t expect you to know the law or procedure, the will teach you that.

Good luck
