Buddha's teaching is that everything including life as we know is impermanent.

The difference between death and birth is only a thought moment. The last thought moment of this life conditions the first thought moment in a so called next life. (cause and effect). In comparison life is also nothing more than a series of thought moments followed by activities (karma).

However, Buddhism strongly rejects the idea of a permanent soul.
(since NOTHING is permanent) .

Depends on the specific sect within Buddhism.

A common understanding is that of Reincarnation (as a curse).

And the suppression of desire of any kind, for either good or evil, is a goal to break the cycle of Reincarnation and to reach at state of non-being (a form of eternity suicide).
