I am 25 years old. I was just granted permanent residency in the U.S.. I have 3 degrees and I speak 3 languages fluently, (one of which is spanish) and yet I cannot seem to find a job, since I don't have any job experience because I was in the U.S. as a student, no one will hire me.not even the simple job offers such as MC D's.
My wife works extra long hours and makes not more than $800 a month, we live in a small university town, so jobs do not pay much. She has one and 1/2 year left to graduate as a R.N. but she cannot afford to cut hours at her job or will starve.
I have been looking in other towns too but no one calls me back.
For the past few weeks I have been comtemplating suicide, I am running out of options with my life, I do not know whatto do anymore, my mother back home call me useless son of a ***** who is not ashamed of being supported by 2 women ( her and my wife). Why live?

Don't go the Suicide Route! It's not worth it.
Keep trying with the job hunt! You'll find something. As for your mother calling you Useless....ask her if she knows three languages and has 3 degrees!
The job market is harsh right now Keep looking! Look for places that need translators for the languages you speak....Like hospitals or something like that.
God Bless!

Suicide is not the thing to be thinking of. I find it really hard to believe that you cannot find a job anywhere. I know it may not be the best job but you can be a laborer just about anywhere. Just look in the paper and you can get a good paying job doing any kind of construction work. This will help you keep your head above water. Or be a waiter and obviously you speak english go work at a telemarkting company or something. These jobs are all well paying and you will be definatly making more then 800 a month. They may not be the most appealing to you but sometimes you have to grow up and face the music and do what you have to to get ahead. Its only going to be a little while until you land a job you want but its sounds like now you have to sacrifice. Good Luck.

Hey, I will be 25 years old tomorrow. Ever since I graduated from college more than a year ago with a BA, I also have experienced difficulty finding a job. I work in Milpitas on call, but it is still not enough. I totally understand what you go through. You should apply for volunteer positions to start off before they will possibly hire you as a full time employer. That's something you can fill the gap on your resume for time being. Just because you did not have a job, it doesn't mean that you cannot live. It's real life situation, and you have to deal with it. Be more patient and time will come. Remember not to give up. Never.

Why Live? Because you have people who love you and you should love yourself also. I found a man dead in my basement this year. He took his life by overdosing on presciption pills. By the time that I found him he had been dead for 3 or 4 days and he was very swollen and bruised. Your wife is doing all that she can to try and pull you through this tough time, so be grateful. Your mother I don't understand, as she doesn't sound very supportive. If you have languages and 3 degrees soon enough jobs will be coming your way. Perhaps your just not looking at the right spots to work. McD's would certainly not hire you as you are far to educated to work for them and they realize that hiring someone with your qualifications would be for a short term until you find something in your field. Sometimes life can seem unpleasant but that is certainly no reason to take one's own life. Please try to keep the faith and realize that sooner or later things will turn around for you and you will achieve your goals.

If you want you could find a job with the government. They are always looking for more people. where to look is the question and what your interests are. before my dad got a decent job he worked as a middle school teacher teaching geography or biology. Then went to work for the Air Force as a civilian and then got a job at an arsenal as a RSO. You might have to get out of the town where you live where there is little opportunity. California, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky is where my dad had to try to find jobs and finally came to Iowa and found a nice one. It may take time but never give up and don't listen to what anyone else has to say if it is going to put you down.

What are your degrees in? If you were just granted permanent residency, you'll soon find a job now that employers do not have to be afraid you might be illegal to hire.
Try to make friends with positive people who make you feel good and might have better job leads. Go to the local university and see if anyone needs tutors or something. Offer a service for people while you're still looking for work; you've got the degrees. It'll happen for you, just be patient and try not to let anyone hurt your feelings anymore. You love life or you wouldn't be getting so down. It'll be alright.

I really find it hard that you cannot find a job when a lot more inexperienced people with LESS than you have can get jobs even in MC D's !
What TOWN are you IN?
You did not say...I cannot help you without this information!
Do not feel despair!
Stop listening to the crap your mom tells you!
She is THERE not HERE...things are hard all over.
EVERYWHERE...
So if everyone had the same idea to KILL themselves what would it do?
Make your wife miserable and have to pay for your funeral!
And your mom too!
You do not say what your degrees are for or in what country they are from...it is sometimes hard to get a job Here because your credits for your degrees do not add up to USA standards...
Sorry but it is true...
I have heard this problem a lot...
Try an employment agency or a Temporary agency.
Search on the NET for employment in your area...
Good luck...OK
and remember the A hard day ABOVE ground each day beats one crappy day buried underground!
Keep the challenge Alive!

First of all suicide is not the answer...it's never the answer. If you do that, you'll just confirm their accusations of calling you useless. Suicide is a cowards way out...you know that.
As for the job situation, stop looking and march in to your nearest temp agency. Not only can they not turn you away (with the exception of a criminal background), but they often find work for you within a day or two. Something is better than nothing for the time being.
Keep your chin up buddy, things always get better with time. When one door closes another one opens....it's just that sometimes you have to walk through the hallway of hell before you get there.

Why not live? It can't get any worse right? 6 months is a blink of an eye. You will make it. Just seek out social services in your community, local job banks... There are so many resouces in the US that you can make it. If you are truly suicidal, do you have a plan? Seek help now! Your wife and mother will be way worse off if they lose you on top of the hardship they are dealing with now. Who will pay for the funeral and all of those expenses. Sounds like you have a lot to offer, just wait it out, something will come. Only death is forever. Keep applying for jobs, you's get one.

You need to consider your interviewing skills/ appearance. You should take a long, hard look at yourself if you can't get a job at Micky D's - I worked there when I was 15. My attitude sucked, and I was nasty to the customers - but I was still good 'nuff for them.
Do you have a beard? Long hair? It's not fair, but men with a beard or long hair simply do not have a lot of employment options.
Do you realise that your mother called herself a b**** ?
You have a wife that loves you enough to keep it together until you find a job. Are you too proud to go on living? Try a little gratitude, maybe the smile it puts on youyr face will help you get a j-o-b. ;)
