you may want to look into:
Labradoodles
Poodles
Havanese
Bichon Frise
Shih-tzu
Maltese
Yorkie
Soft coated Wheaten terrier
Generally if the dog needs to be clipped they are more likely to be OK for allergy sufferers.

I've three answers for you.
#1 Get an Aibo from Sony. Robot dog. Next...
#2 Get a Chihuahua. There is a theory that Chihuahuas are the only kind of dog not descended from wolves. Its believed by some that they actually come from a kind of fox. Maybe you won't be allergic to them as a result.
#3 Consider a hairless dog, such as the American Hairless Terrier, Chinese Crested, Hairless Khala, Peruvian Inca Orchid, or Xoloitzcuintle. No hair, no dander, no allergy, right?
Good luck!

A lot of people are actually allergic to the dust and pollen and dander that is on the dog's skin and coat. Pet supplies often sell things to wipe down the dog's coat to help relieve your allergies. They are something like a baby wipe, and I have heard can help a lot. Try Fosters & Smith pet magazine. You can order it for free. Poodles are among the ones that are supposed to be close to being hypoallergenic. Good luck.

my sister really wanted a dog - she wanted a medium size fluffy breed known as KEESHOND - she went to the doctor and took allergy shots so she could have the dog - that was 30 years ago.. I am sure technoligy is better - talk to your doctore
NO LABRADOODLES - this is a gimmick cross bred dog... over priced MUTTS.. you are just as likely to get one who sheds as one who doesnt..people who intentionally breed mutts are unethical and you can be sure that the pups are low quality because if the parents were good quality they would be used to breed PUREBREDS!!!
if you want a large dog - Airdale Terrier, Standard Poodle (both are smart dogs so only get if you have alot of time)
Smaller dogs would be Bichon Frise, Shih Tzu (very good for somebody who doesnt have a lot of time for a dog), Yorkshire Terrier.. etc
remember any non-shedding dog requires regular trips to the groomer for hair cuts
depending on the age of your kids (if they are younger than 8) you may want to get an adult dog NOT a puppy - because pups are A LOT of work..
contact your local SPCA before you look elsewhere - also ask them if their are other rescues you can call
the WORST place to get a dog is from a pet store...

If you'd prefer a smaller dog, a toy or miniature poodle would be a good pup for you. If you like larger dogs, goldendoodles, standard poodles, portugese water dogs, and like you said, labradoodles, are great choices. The overall best one with kids is a goldendoodle, which you can get in a regular larger size, or a mini goldendoodle which weighs about 40-60 pounds. Labradoodles also come in the mini size, which is a perfect medium size for a family! Good luck with your doggie search!

Labradoodles would be good. I wouldn't do poodles with children because I have 2 facial scars thanks to my grandma's toy poodle when I was little. Small dogs are yippy and mean if you ask me. Especially chihuahuas. They're evil little rats. Anything with a retriever bloodline in it will (usually) be calm and good with kids. Poodles don't have the same dander problem other dogs do because they have hair, not fur. A labradoodle sounds perfect for your situation.

Both maltese puppies and Yorkshire Terriers are good choices for people with allergies (Both have human-like hair, instead of normal dog dander, which cuts down on allergic reactions)

Allergic people swear by poodles (and all their assorted mixes). Best thing to do is find someone with one and see if you react. You wouldn't want to break your kid's hearts if you get one, only to discover you can't live with it.
There are treatments that will make you less sensitive. They are time consuming and can be costly, but maybe you can get your insurance to pay. It would be worth it in the long run.
