That is why I loved being deployed in the early 80's. Most of the countries I was in at the time never carded, if they even had a drinking age I never was bothered by it. Also when I was stationed in Hawaii, the drinking age was still 18, so it didn't matter then either.

Up until the 1970s it was not legal for someone to be able to vote at 18. The legal voting age was 21 until the ratification of the 26th Amendment to the Constitution. So it was actually at some point legal to drink at 18 and serve in uniform, and illegal to vote for the political leaders of this country. So ask yourself what would you rather have? A voice in who determines your future, or a drink?

Because society consensus: Laws.
I think that grow people thought that you can defend your country, family, friends and life style as early as you have 18 but you HAVE to wait till 21 to start to screw your body and mind.
It makes sense to me. Military objective is not kill is defence. There you are in a very controlled environment where your instructors prepare you in order to gain skills for defence and make your self better in some aspects.
Beer... is for fun but be HONEST and you will agree that it can also hurt you specially if you don't have control of your self, Think not only in you but your friends not so fortunate and some crazy.
Hugs!
(I like beer BTW)

Blame the feds. The few states that tried to hold out against the law were denied any money for their hwy's. Go big gov't! But in Louisiana you can if you are in a publically accepted group, and drink on private property.

One is the age limit for serving others and another is the age bar for going to the Bar to do damage to one self.

There is a reason why they chose the age 21 to drink..... Your liver filters all blood, alcohol, etc.......
And your liver isn't fully developed and matured until 21.....
That's why alot of under age drinkers die from alcohol poisoning....
That's a fact.....

Someone else is in charge in the Military. If you are so sure you will lose your legs, you are not smart enough to handle drinking.
