--Is Catholic and a Professional Theologian--

The short answer is no, there is no correlation between the mess in the Middle East and the "end times". People who say there is are not following the bible and or do not understand Revelations.

Now it is easier to say such and such a verse correlates to this current event, than it is to say no it does not (that requires many more pages of typing). Thus, I will not give you any commentary unless I have something specific to refute

As a Catholic, I believe that we are living in a very bad time and very bad things have the possibility to occur in the Middle East within our life times. However, I do not need my Faith to tell me that.

You should not worry about the end times because they are in God's choosing not ours. The madman of Iran thinks he can choose the timing (and so do not a few protestants overly interested in Israel). Remember the words of St. Paul, " we are children of the light, not the darkness, and the day shall not surprise us". So pray always and look to your own sins and your own path, for your judgment most likely will come before the end of this world.

You really do need to do some research and most of the responses here to your question are right on the mark with good intent. But as Magalomanya mentions you seem to have made a judgment without doing your homework. That will come back on you two-fold.

Revelation 14: 9-12.

This fearful warning describes two groups of people. The first group is warned against worshipping the beast and his image, which leads them to receive the mark of the beast; while the second group is viewed positively as keeping the commandments of God. Furthermore, the description of the second coming of Christ directly follows this warning.

We need to allow the Bible to interpret its own symbols. We should expect that God, for our benefit, revealed within the Bible the meaning of these symbols. Therefore, what we need is some diligence in study to find their interpretation in the Bible. By such a method, we avoid all human conjecture and speculation.

The Bible actually condemns human conjecture and speculation because "no prophecy... is of any private interpretation" 2 Peter 1:20. The Bible defines its own symbols. For example, the book of Revelation contains 404 verses. Out of these 404 verses, 278 are found almost word for word in other books in the Bible, where their meaning is expounded.

Therefore, I encourage you to do as the Bible Bereans (see Acts 17:10, 11) and bring every teaching to the test of the Scripture. As, whoever will prayerfully study the Bible, desiring to know the truth, that he may obey it, will understand the Scriptures. "If any man will do His will, he shall know...whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. "John 7:17.

The choice is yours! Or you can allow someone else to make the choice for you, and that my friend will cost you.

For a truly insightful book on the book of Revelation, try the Biblical Theologian Scott Hahn. A former protestant minister who converted to Catholism. He is an excellent writer who sheds much light on the book of Revelation.

Not especially. In Revelations, it's been speculated that ,pardon the expression, all of hell would break loose after there had been a time of peace(I believe it was 30 odd years of peace?) in the Middle East. This has never happened. The Middle East has always been a hotbed of fighting for over 2000 years. Revelations has also been speculated as predicting the fall of the Roman Empire, which has already occurred.

No.
The things prophesied in Revelation were to shortly come to pass. Revelation was telling the early Christians that suffering was coming, but if they remained faithful, they would receive an eternal home in heaven. (Rev. 2:10)

Notice these verses:

The first verse of Revelation: "The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass..." (Revelation 1:1)

Revelation 1:3, "...for the time is at hand."

Now look at the last chapter in Revelation:

"And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done." (Revelation 22:6)

"...the time is at hand" (Revelation 22:10)

People who say the things in Revelation were things to happen 2000 years later, have ignored these verses. Revelation was warning the Churches about persecution they would suffer.

Another mistake, Revelation was written in signs, but some people try to take many of these verses as literal. Many false teachings have been made by distorting the true message of Revelation.

Well there's
Isaiah 19:22-24 The LORD will strike Egypt with a plague; he will strike them and heal them. They will turn to the LORD, and he will respond to their pleas and heal them. In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will go to Egypt and the Egyptians to Assyria. The Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together. In that day Israel will be the third, along with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing on the earth.

There is a highway now in existance between Egypt and Assyria.

There's Matthew 24 which is unfolding before our eyes. There are wars and rumors of wars worldwide. There are great storms, famines, and earthquakes in increase.

Isreal is a nation again, just like the Bible predicted. That in itself is quite a miracle.

If you're very imaginative and a worrier, you sure will find one. If you want to believe there is a correlation, you're bound to find one because you are ready to believe anything, because your judgement has already been clouded even before you did the investigating.

Worry not of the end, when the present is a gift to appreciate.

Sure there are. And, they have been used for hundreds of years to prove that the "end times" would occur in each generation:
