If God will send me to hell because I do not understand, then he is an unfair God and does not merit any real concideration either way.
If I beleive in him just so he does not send me to hell, then I am being a hypocrit and I do not merit going to heaven---
if he sends me to heaven for beleiving in him just so I would not go to hell, then he is an unjust God and not a moral one...

because god invokes images of the afterlife, and almost all people are afraid of the fact that there is no such thing. can you easily grasp the concept that all your memories, experiences, and life simply cease to be in an instant? can you grasp that there is no soul? if you cant, you find a crutch to hide the truth. the crutch known as religion.

Because through out history people have shown a need to believe in a higher power and the promise of life after death, after all, If god did not exist, it would be necessary to invent one. ( and we have! )

I'm not saying I believe in God, or that I don't believe in God... but... if you don't have faith, you don't have anything. If I didn't have faith in the things I have faith in, I wouldn't want to live anymore.
