Kismet is understood to be fate, or destiny playing a determining role in an event in life of a person or peoples. It answers one of those questions for which there are no answers. Why did it happen to me? I suppose it is viewed in a negative context as something that happened that was not sought out. No one ever says, I wish I wasn't so darned lucky all the time!

It means fate. Here are some definitions for you:
# A Turkish and Arabic word for fate, expressing the attitude that human effort cannot change the predestined course of events
# Islam) the will of Allah
# Destiny or Fate concerns the fixed natural order of the universe.
# That cannot be changed, for it is fate, it is kismet that it is supposed to happen, be it your destiny.
Hope this helps
