A game APBT matched in weight as close as possible would win every time. My top dog is 52lbs conditioned weight and would destroy any Rottweiler . Rottweilers are not fighting dogs and have no gameness in them , a fighting pit would wear them out . Dog fighting is not legal and should not be encouraged.

depends what you mean by tougher and in which sense of the word you mean. For personal protection, both are tied. I'll clear this up for you now, the old theory of a pit bull having jaws that lock is a lie cooked up by the news agencies. Also, the theory that pitbulls have a stronger grip than other dogs is also a lie. The reason I know this is because I am a certified dog trainer and have trained Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Dobermans, Giant Schnauzers, and Belgium Malinois. Of all these breeds, the strongest and firmest bite goes to the Malinois because of the steel caps that are generally placed on their teeth. Now, for personal protection, Dobermans, Malinois, and German Shepherds are proven as the best all around for this task. If you want a specific guard dog, which is intimidating and powerful, you go for Dobermans and Rottweilers. If you want full obedianceand working dog, you go for Shepherds and Malinois. If you want a dog that is loyal to you and ONLY you, you go for a pitbull. This is stated in a sense where the dog has not been trained for protection work. Now, about the jaws and strength of jaws. It depends on the dog. Just like some guys are stronger than others, dogs are the same. Its all in the genetics of it. Shepherds, Malinois and Schnauzers were bred to be working dogs with the emphasis on herding in their countries. The rottweiler was bred as a strong all around dog. The pit bull was bred for its kindness to children originally but also because of its size and agility, it was a great dog to use for fighting. The Doberman, is the only dog in the world and in history to be bred specifically for protection and guard work. That was the only purpose for developing and breeding the doberman.
If you are asking muscle wise, the rottweiler outweighs the pit bull by upto 50-60 lbs depending on the dog and the country of origin. American Rotts are taller and heavier but European Rotts are tougher and stronger but about an inch or two shorter. However, because of their size, Rottweilers can only last about 5-10 minutes in a true fight. Pit bulls are shorter than rotts but because of their size and agility, last longer in fights. Now, with that said, the conditions of the dog and the overall lifestyle of a dog plays a big role in the way they fight. Dogs that are kept inside and fed fancy diets and only taken for walk are usually weaker when they face a dog that is kept outside, fed kibble or regular meals, and is taken out from time to time. Also, dogs that have a "pack" or other dogs around them, if they are the alpha, are usually if not always tougher and stronger than those living alone with a family.
About the jaws and bites of the dogs; pit bulls do NOT lock their jaws any differently than a German Shepherd or Malinois do. That is the way they were bred and raised. These dogs were bred to protect herds or children and hold the attacker there until the master comes or until the animal dies. Rottweilers and Dobermans have specific qualities that are not found in many working dogs and even less in herding breeds. They have whats called "head shake" designed to snap a prey's neck or instantly knock an attacker down. These dogs, once they clasp on to you, use their weight to knock you off balance and once you are, they shake their heads and bodies so that you fall down. Also, they are multiple strikers meaning that they bite more than one time and keep biting even after you are down or after the prey is dead.

The pit would be alot more meaner.I dont own a rotti or a pit .And I don't ever plan on it.I will tell you one thing though I have seen some rottweilers that were more behaived and more gentle than any dog I have seen.I just don't want one because I like my dog medium in size and I don't feel the bigger dogs are good for my kids.Just because a dog isn't good for me doesn't mean its a bad dog at all.Rottis don't scare me but pits make me nervous. The rotti would scare more people off and away from your house because they are big tall and darger.

I can't give you exact dimensions, I can't predict how large your dog will get! But a Rottweiler is a big dog, and if you want a cage he grows into, find a large one that you can put a divider into. The crate should only be big enough for your dog to be able to lie down comfortably and also be able to stand up and turn around comfortably. If it's too big, when you're dog is a puppy, he'll have accidents in his crate. The less accidents in the crate, the easier it is to potty train.

any dog in the hands of the wrong owner can be mean and tough.
You have to remember these breeds were bred for different types of jobs...People that used them for the wrong are the ones who gave these magnificent animals the bad names that they have now.
There is beauty in both of these breeds.I own a Rotty and I have a relative that has a Pitt ...They are in good hands and still have a bad wrap even though they have been well trained and are worked daily...

that depends how u raise them.
u can have the biggest rott and the smallest pit. if the rott was spoiled & baby'd, the pit will kik it everytime.
now 2 really find out...do this. don't feed either of them 4 2 dayz. then put 'em both in the yard w/ 1 bowl. the 1 that comes out of that, will b the champ n whatever situation.
survival is the 1 true test

depends what you mean by "tougher" a pit has a lock jaw and is often more determined in a fight but Rotties outweigh them so are also "tough"... pound for pound I would think the Pit.. but lets face it only loosers own dogs because they want an animal that is "tough"...
nobody who has any sense of coolness or self esteem needs a tough pet.. they would have these dogs, BUT they would be gentle well loved PETS
