I disagree.
unless if that means Americans aren't allowed to immigrant to other countries, because then it would be fair. (thats a joke, i know the borders will never and should never be closed completely)

i once read that there was a specific quota for immigrants to enter the country back at the turn of the century. here's how it worked:
say America had 50 million people --only 3% of THAT number could be immigrated in.
a few years later, when the American population was a bit higher, the quota went to 4%
i think if there was some sort of quota system instituted, ther would be a bit more control over our growth and that would help control our resources.
Closing the borders when the quota is reached is a good idea. ( i think)
But as long as the gov't keeps turning away from this issue to focus on other things like banning gay marriages, stopping stem cell research, etc and not equipping the boarders with more workers and stronger laws, there is always going to be an issue at the borders.

I don't think you are aware of the nature of immigration law. You want to close the borders?
As of now, the US borders are open mainly for family reunification, treaty obligations (NAFTA, refugee treaty), commercially-vital skills, corporate transfers (executives and professionals of international firms), journalists and ministers of religion.
So how would you change it?
If you are referring to undocumented aliens, what would you do on behalf of farmers to keep crops from rotting in the fields? And for the rest, how would you enforce the law? Would you raise taxes to provide more border guards and set up an Iron-Curtain-type mined field with machine guns?
I think you need to make some political decisions regarding how some other, politically-important friends (i.e., campaign contributors) of the Republican Party and the Administration are going to be dealt with.
And in the end, you are going to have to contribute more money than they do. . . .

Kind of agree - if there are people who have a special skill, I would make an exception for a brief residence. Say for example a surgeon who has discovered a new technique and is willing to teach it at a medical school, but you need a use beyond picking fruit or cleaning toilets. You know, something elementary students can't figure out.

Yes they all need to be secure. Wait until a recession hit's America like it did in the 80's this country is a time bomb waiting to go off . When we have another great depression wonder how many pro illegals will continue to welcome all of Mexico?
