You are going to be the one living your life, not them. If they love surgeons so much they should have been one. Veternarians have a better quality of life because they aren't on a crazy hospital schedule and they make great money too! Do what you want to do so that you won't regret your decisions in the future. Tell your parents to repect your dreams or else threaten them by telling them that if they don't support you, you'll end up working the drive-thru at McDonalds! That part was just a joke! Good Luck!

Youre the one that has to do the work not only in school but after as well. You will be the one suffering if you hate what your doing (not your parents) ...it'll turn into your doing the motions with no passion behind it (life seems meaningless at that rate). When you have no passion for what youre doing it can lead to resentment and bitterness or even depression. Do you plan to have a family in the future what will your decision mean then (will you be depressed or happy and how do you think that will affect them) If it were your child what would you want for them, what would you advise them? Just remember in the long run if you do what they wanted and your miserable you can't blame them because it was your choice. Sometimes parents have a hard time realizing that we are capable of making our own decisions. You might show them the pro's and con's of both to show you have thought about it but you heart leads you in another direction. If it means anything I think that either could be a rewarding path. Good Luck with your parents and your decision.

First, think why you want to be a vet. List up your reasons. You may want to talk to one or two real vet. Ask them about this profession. Next. think why your parents want you to be a surgeon. List up their reasons. You can ask them if necessary. After that, compare the two lists and choose one. Let your brain decide first. Then let your heart make the final decision. After all it is your own life!

How old are you? If you're an adult, and you have the RIGHT to choose what you want to do, then to hell with them, it's YOUR LIFE!! If you're, like, an adolescent, then this will always be a confusing time... tell them to become surgeons themselves, if they want it that much.

You are the one that has to decide. You need to choose a career that you will be happy in. Your parents need to understand and respect your choice in your career. You will be the one that has to succeed and perform it. If you are in a career that you are satisfied; then you will succeed. If you choose a career to appease everyone else and you are not happy; you will not succeed. A vet is a rewarding career.

You have to follow your heart...your parents aren't going to be the ones putting in all the hard work it takes to become either one of those professions!

I, personally, would feel a little uncomfortable having someone perform surgery on me just because their parents wanted them to. Be a veterenarian--If it's what you really want to do, you'll be much better at it than you would be at surgery... and you'll be happier :)

Do what you want to do. They will come around. If they don't, ask them how they would like for you to drop out and move back home permanently.
