Your dogs will continue to wake you up every morning because you've taught them that if they persist - you'll feed them!

Someone else suggested self-feed - but in my experience, you probably can't do that with most labs because they eat and eat and don't stop when they're full. If yours are an exception, try it.

If not, you have to bite and bullet and be prepared for several early mornings because you have to be firm with them and not give in to their demand to be fed. When your dog wakes you up, firmly tell him no, your voice has to tell him you're displeased, and DON'T give in. It may take a while, but you can re-train them.

Good luck!

Just a thought: How about putting a treat in a toy (like those kong toys) and hiding it under your pillow or in your nightstand? Then when the lab wakes up, you toss the toy to him and he's busy for a little longer. OR you could just put some food out the night before so that when he wakes up he can eat.

Feed him plenty in the evening, and then DON'T feed him in the morning. If he still seems hungery feed him a little in the later afternoon. Your dog is getting what he want because he is being agressively assertive, which is natural. You however are offering him little resistance. The unstopable force needs to be met with the impassible object.

Is it possible to free feed the dogs? If you feed dry food you can keep the food out all the time so they can eat when they feel like it. In that way, they won't wake you up to eat.

That should have been a consideration when you decided to have dogs, that sometimes you have to put them first.

Dogs are like children...you have to let them know who is boss. My dogs will stay in bed until I get up(If hubba went to work early) But on the weekends they wake him up @ 8:00 because they have him trained.

Crate train him. If you train him to use a crate or a cage, he will naturally use that as a bed and when he goes there to sleep at night you can just close it. And eventually, you may want to put it in an area where you wont hear him if he wakes up.

What time does he wake you up?. If its morning it's time to wake up anyway. Go to bed sooner. When your hungry you eat. keep food in the bowl at all times and fresh water every day if you cant get up and feed the poor baby..
Your his care giver take care of him.

Apparently you can't handle the dogs, Is this fair to the dogs? No. So you must rid yourself from the responsibility, or give up the dogs.

If you could handle it, then you wouldn't be asking questions here.

Once again I'll say this tonight - Welcome to LABBIE world!! My Labs (3) use to do the saaaaaame thing, I don't want to sound like an egotistical dog trainer - but you do have to show them whose in charge. And don't say any thing to them when they wake up, just ignore them and close your bedroom door. I did this with my Labs and now they eat when I say they eat. It take time but it works....TRUST ME.
