Did you ever notice how a lot of horror films are set in the Catholic Church? How it is usally dark in there, someone gets exorcised, and demons jump out and kill you? When I watched nuns pray the Rosary on tv once, they were chanting in a way that scared me. I was afriad of the Catholic church until a few months ago when I made myself sit through a service. It was actually bright in there, and there was no chanting. The Preist preached a short sermon, something very familiar to me. Has anyone else ever been afraid of the Catholic church? Tell me about it.

Well, I am afraid of hearing the repetitive prayers done in chorus. I'm not sure if it's called "Novena". I remember when I was younger, there'd be a "Hail Mary" prayer before 6am on the AM radio.. and it just sounded so creepy.
I'm afraid of the idol images my mom has at home. I feel them staring at me and thought they move in midnight. I once covered them all with a blanket and I was scolded for *disrespect.

I am sorry you have been frightened by Hollywood's depiction of the Catholic Church.

You seem attracted to the Catholic Church? Why don't you speak to someone informed about it? If you want to know about the Catholic Church, don't ask those who hate the Catholic Church to tell you about it.

You can read about the Catholic Church from publishers such as: Tan Books (Rockford, IL.), which are very informative. Ask for them at a Catholic Book store. Or if you think you are ready, ask someone at the Catholic Parish about the Rite of Christian Initiation program. Usually a phone call can get you started.

If it is not for you, you can always go back to whatever denomination you currently belong to.

Good luck.

I'm glad you were able to go to a Catholic Church and felt comfortable. This is a good sign that your heart is in the right place and oriented toward God.
The nuns on tv were not chanting but were actually praying the rosary. The rosary is a meditation on the life, death and resurection of Jesus. It also honors Jesus mother Mary.

I am Catholic and have never been afraid of the Catholic Church. All the horror depicted in films are blasphemy and a very biased picture painted of the Catholic Church and bear no truth. The Catholic Mass is beautiful and Jesus Christ becomes truly present in the celebration of the Mass as the bread and wine are consecrated into His very real presence among us. Jesus is truly present, body, blood, soul and divinity at the point of consecration.

Nope, not scared of the Catholic Church. I'm Catholic myself. But Hollywood is very good at turning things around and if you look at the architecture of gothic churches, well yeah, I'd set a horror film in a church, too.

No I am not afraid of the Catholic Church. I was raised and I am still Catholic forever. I just love the church, the priests: they are like an angel for me and our current Pope...our Holy Pope...

I just love the Catholic Church and I will never change, I am very happy my parents taught me this religion :)

No, I'm not afraid of the Catholic Church.
However, there is a LOT, that I don't think is right about the Catholic religion such as:
* Worshiping idols...such as Mary...nowhere in the Bible does it say to worship her or ANYone else.
* Have you seen their churches, and the get up everyone in the Church has on...that wasted money could have gone to much better uses.

I don't want to bore you with everything, but to answer your question...I'm not afraid of any Catholic Church. And I doubt I will ever find myself in a horror film type scenario anyway.

the reason the Catholic church is ofton portrayed in such a negative way is because it is the church that all Christian churchs branched off from. the reasons varied usually from corrupt church officals hundreds of years ago.
the church today is very special, from my experience of being active for well over a decade it basically teaches not to judge people. I have never had a priest call anyone out in particular-something commonly practiced among other denominations.

But in the end it all comes down to your relationship with God.

What's scary about the Catholic Church? I mean the current Pope looks kind of like the Emperor from Star Wars but that's about it.
