I would call your pediatrician to be sure but from my understanding they are contagious before the spots start showing.

the pox must be in the final stages (crusting over with no new outbreaks)
Shots? They help but don't prevent the infection. You can get chicken pox even after being vaccinated. On the up side, they are usually not as severe.

I'd still wait. I was very cautious with my daughter b/c she was a preemie, but I think I still would've been MORE cautious if it were something more than a cold; like the chicken pox. I'd wait until she's been COMPLETELY HEALTHY for 10 days. That's the rule I always stuck to, no matter what, and my 25 weeker didn't get sick AT ALL until after she was one!

If she HAD it...then it's okay. The carrier of the chicken pox is the most contagious a day or two prior to the actual break out.

I thought that once the spots appeared you were no longer able to transmit the disease. You're only 'catching' in the days leading up to the spots. Also - I know many parents who WANT their babies/children to get chicken pox at a young age. The older you are when you get it, the worse it is.

Once all the chicken pox have scabbed over, she is no longer contagious and it is perfectly safe for her to visit you and your baby.

if y our baby has had shots then you should be fine... BUT as a precaution i would wait till all the sores have healed on her properly as she will only want to touch and be all over your baby
my children were spared the virus at an early age but I managed to get it from this other child ... i only got it mildly but it was still annoying...
the mother will understand if you make arrangements for the following week at least...
always take precautions when you can
