Often firefighters and police officers are trained as "first responders." Their job is to begin treatment before the paramedics or EMTs arrive. The reason for this is that police are all over and their response time is better than an ambulance, and can begin administering first aid a lot sooner. As for firefighters, there has been a large decline in the number of fires in the US, the firefighters don't have as much to do, so they were trained to provide first aid before an ambulance arrives.

This is good in a truly life threatening emergency, because some of the things they can do, like CPR and use a defibrillator can save someones life. An ambulance can take up to 10 minutes arrive, and if someone can administer CPR and defibrillation before that, there is a greater chance for their survival.

because the fire truck usually has an EMT or medic on board and they're usually closer to the call than the ambulance. For example, we have 7 ambulances in our county and 23 fire stations. Its all about getting to the person in those critical first few minutes, and since there are so many fire stations....the engine usually beats the ambulance. Also, there is additional equipment on the fire truck such as an AED that can be used to deliver a shock in a cardiac arrest if need be. The fire truck also come for man power....to help the medics load the patient, get supplies, etc. They work hand in hand

An engine is never dispatched to a non-emergency call though. Always only the true medical emergencies get help from the engine.

In most cities fire men are considered first responders. They are trained in medical aide and can temporarily treat someone until a ambulance gets there. The reason they do this is because there are typically more fire trucks then there are ambulances so they are able to get there faster. The police go to help handle any situation that may become dangerous.

This does not always happen. My son has had several seizures...2 required EMS and both times only the ambulance came. We have had 4 fires in our neighborhood and only the fire dept showed up.

because many times we want to get somebody there as quickly as possible. many times seizures are a beginning of something worse...like death. most of the times a person having a seizure needs to be carried out . sometimes these people weigh a lot. figure an adult male, who weighs 200 lbs, our stretcher weighs 70-100 lbs, now we have 130-150 pounds to carry per paramedic. now, lets add some steps either up or down. plus if these people need care during that time. so which would you rather have, plenty of people to save a life, or just two people having to run back and forth getting equipment, carry the patient and such.

They all show up because each one can help in a different way and all of them are qualified in an emergency. When you call 911,they all show up and the first one there starts working on the emergency whatever it may be.Then when the ambulance gets there if it is their resposibilty, they can take over and transport patient if needed to the hospital.

Because most munincipalities roll an engine for the manpower and a police uint for safety. Some engines even have medics on board, and the ambulance is for transport.

This is the 911 system. When a call comes in they throw everything in case there is a delay in any one service getting there. Seizures must be high on their list of major medical events.

because firemen and policemen are first responders and can usually get there before an emt can. They are there only to administer basic first aid, which could be the difference in life or death.

The fire truck shows up because they are first responders, normally there are 2 small women on the ambulance.so the firefighters load the patient.the cops are just noisy.
