Fair question. Ask yourself the following. If physical beauty is all there is to "attraction", why do women not just stick to other beautiful women? Why bring men into the picture at all? Certainly women can appeciate beauty in other women, right? And if each finds the other beautiful, why not just have sex and fall in love?

I'm a gay man. That said, I see gorgeous women all the time. Truly stunning women. Conversely, I'm sure you can admit to yourself that from time to time you see an attractive man. Of course, not being a gay male, you won't have sexual feelings towards that guy, but I would imagine that you can at least take an objective look at another male and say, "yes, but all standards he's handsome."

Physical attractiveness is only one component to what makes someone attracted to another person. I can't stress this enough. I see gorgeous women EVERYWHERE around town. I see them, but I feel absolutely no sexual attraction at all. It's just not in me.

Can you remember that first time as a teenager when you got the butterflies in your stomach...the nervous anticipation before you went over and talked to the cute girl in class...before you asked her if she wanted to see a movie with you, etc.,? Of course you do. We all do. I would venture to guess, though, that you didn't sit down with yourself in the weeks prior to that occasion and decide, "OK, I'm going to be straight. My first sexual stirrings will be directed at females and I shall not, ever, harbor sexual desires for those of my own sex." You never had that conversation because it wasn't even a possiblility. The idea that you would someday be walking down that street, bump into a supremely hot guy and say, "Oh wow, you're cute. God I want to sleep with you" was (and is, I'm sure) so beyond remote that it didn't even register to you.

And so it is for me. My first crush was a guy. The first time I ever had sexual desires, it was for a guy. My first date was with a guy. All of my "firsts" were with guys. I never sat in my room and said, "OK, I want to be gay." That I might have been anything BUT gay was simply impossible.

Here's something to consider. Imagine your question being asked by a woman: "How can someone be a lesbian with so many hot guys?? I mean guys are the hottest things on earth. How can a woman like another woman?"

In fact, we don't have to "imagine" a woman asking it. This very question is asked by heterosexual men and women everyday. And rightly so. It's a good question.

It's a good question that deserves discussion. I don't believe there are easy answers. I believe the best we can do is be open to the differences of others and, if need be, agree to disagree.

I don't know why I'm gay. :) I wonder? Do you know why you're straight? Please take this question as intended...not to be confrontational, but rather to help me learn: Can you tell me, without resorting to "...because women are so hot..." type arguments (because that would lead us back to, "ok, why then are not all women lesbians?"), why your sexual desires are directed at women and not men?

I know for me, it's with another man that I''ll want to share my life, my love, my bed, my dreams, and myself. I'll assume you'll want to share all those things with someone...presumably a woman. :)

Why the difference between us? I wish I knew. My guess is that we have about as much choice in our sexual orientation as we do the color of our eyes. Please share with me what you think.

How about they don't feel threatened by some jerk that wants them only for their body and arm candy. Everybody is not ossessed with 'wham bam thank you maam' Friendship is higher on the agenda than finding some self proclaimed stud to ball.
