I have a 7month chihuahua. I had him housebroke within 2-3 weeks of getting him. I put a pee pad in his crate, When I was home during the day I would go in the backyard with him till he went potty and was ready to come in. He would go 2-3 times in one trip outside. When I would leave or go to bed I would put him in the crate with the pads. I got the ones that smell like grass. I didnt lay any around the house just in his crate. He is housebroke and I can leave him alone and trust he wont go potty in the house.

What if any injuries did he have in the accident? How long have you had him? He could still be scared and confused about what happened to him and to his owners. Take him out after meals, after he wakes up, and after playing hard. You can put some puppy pads down too for him to use when he can't go outside. Love and patience is the key.

i also have a chihuahua and we got those training pads and covered the whole bathroom floor in those pads and made sure no matter where he tried to go i would get up and run to the pads and make him do his business there. after about 2mths. he is harness trained and goes outside except when the weather is bad, then he goes on the pads again.

Take him for frequent walks. If/when you see him getting ready to go, immediately put him outdoors. If you can't make it, put newspaper under him. Every single time he goes in the right place, praise him to high heavens. Let him know you're extremely pleased with him. Do NOT ever hit him or rub his nose in it. You will make him sick & he'll get even in some way. He's not dumb & he does want to please you. Don't show anger with him when he has an accident. All he knows is he had to go & for some reason, you're mad at him. Besides, how would we feel if everytime we went potty, someone got angry at us?
