Good and interesting question.
In Utah (where I am a driving examiner by the way) you retake your driving exam if you:
get your license revoked for a DUI
Have not had a valid license for more than 5 years
Whenever a doctor recommends it
When your medical profile gets to a certain level
If someone turns in a request for re-exam
If you are obviously impaired physically when you walk in the office, an examiner can request a road test.
Our state is looking at possibly enacting a rule that you must retest after a certain age.
It has been my impression however, that it might be beneficial for anyone to retest after 10-20 years, just because you get in a rut, shall we say, and dont even realize that you arent as careful a driver as you once were. That is my own opinion tho.

Age based revocations does not be remarkable. some human beings are in suited administration and possession of all their faculties at eighty, others have been senile at 50, and a few could on no account have been given a license to start with. plenty greater clever may be periodic retesting, requiring medical docs to inform the licensing departments of sufferers suffering particular circumstances, and larger evaluate of motive force license information to make certain people who're incapable of secure practices practices, irregardless of the age. Age does not make a secure or risky motive force on the two end of the spectrum.

It might be a good idea to have people retake a driver's license exam (driving test) when their documented physical health drops in certain areas-i.e. Alzheimer's disease or diseases that affect reaction time and perception. It doesn't necessarily have to be age related, but applicable to certain conditions that make the driver potentially dangerous to others or oneself. And you DO have to take a cursory eye exam to renew your license, at least where I live.
Cheers!

Yes, absolutely! I have seen too many people do dangerous things on the road when they are "of a certain age". Even my own Grandmother, who I love dearly, makes me nervous.
Edited to add: 55-60? LOL! Must be a young poster. I was thinking more like 70 and up. LOL

It would be better to have the young and inexperienced drivers retested every 6 months until the turn 25.

Yes because older people may have kept up with the speed limit when they were younger but i hate when i get behind an senior citizen who goes 25 in a 55 mph zone.

i really think the roads would be safer if they had to,,because some of them probably wouldn't pass the test,,i know i will be old someday too, but if i see that i am driving that bad i will tear my license up,,and never drive again,,because i don't want to be responsible for any one,s death because i couldn't drive good,,or missed something i shouldn't have.
