I'm by Midway in Cook. Did you ever try going to the College of Dupage? they have lots of pretty inexpensive events there. Sometimes they run free to the public movie nights. If not, I know the Chicaog Parks run movies in the parks for free all over the city.

Check out timeoutchicago.com for ideas. Or you guy pick up a copy of their magazine. I subscribe to it because I'm broke most of the time and they have good cheap/free ideas about what to do in the Chicago area.
You could get some friends together and cook out - the weather is nice today. Or you could take the train into the city and "window shop" along State Street or Michigan Ave with your friends.
Another idea is to find out when the free days are at the museums and check one of them out. They might even still be doing that free music stuff downtown. I think it's called "City Dance," or something like that.
There're are actually a lot of things to do - I hope you can find something fun!

I live in Chicago, Cook County and to be honest, without any money, there's nothing you really can do. Chicago's lifestyle is waaay expensive. However, a suggestion would be to have all your friends chip in, buy some drinks, get a little buzzed, then go to a club. It's a lot cheaper than buying drinks at the club. Or visit chicago.com, and look for things to do on the website. They have a lot of free events that you can attend.

Zip out west to Kane county for one of the classic auto shows at the Pheasant Run resort. (I think they have them in Wheaton as well).
In Kane county you can also go to Geneva down to the farmer's market or window shop the antique stores along 3rd st.
Walking Woodfield mall always takes up most of an afternoon, even if you don't buy anything.
If you like nature, go to the Elk Grove Village forest preserve or the Cantini gardens in Winfield. They have a small free museum there as well.
Unfortunately, we're approaching the tail end of summer, so most of the summer festivals are over. But you may be able to find one or two yet. And in early September, you can come to the Festival of the Vine in Geneva for free wine tasting. And you can come to St. Charles in Mid-October for the Scarecrow Festival... lots of cute and clever displays and lots of free music.
Speaking of wine tasting, you can find wine shops all over the Chicagoland area that will offer you a few free tastes while you browse. I know of 5 in the Fox Valley alone (where I live).
And if all else fails, visit your local library to catch up on your summer reading.
Good luck!
