Angelus ~
Are you kidding me, you're just a baby. It would be great to say "I've been doing Hapkido since I was eight years old" but you can't. One of the big disadvantages to starting so young is, your mind is all over the place a lot of times youths lack focus. I started boxing when I was nine years old, but I got my Black belt in BJJ when I was twenty-nine, I started Muya Thai Kick boxing at twenty-two. It depends on how bad you want it. It sounds like you have the desire so go for it and do the very best that you can and everything will be alright. Good Luck!

there is no such thing as being to old to start martial arts.
I am a martial arts instructor and I've had students all ages from 3 years old to 70's and they all do a great job.
17 is a great ages to start, and I really think you'll enjoy Hapkido, it is very effective, just make sure that you work hard and that you dedicate your self to it and you can be a great martial artist.
I've had many 17 year old students and some do good and some don't but it has nothing to do with their age it is their dedication, many of them are now black belts and are helping me in class and at times they teach their own classes.
you should go for it, you'll do great.
HAPKIDO ROCKS !!
have fun and let me know if you have any questions.

Great! I have about 1.5 years of hapkido and I am 37 now. Wife is 34, kids are 10,13, and 4.
Typically Hapkido is not taught to kids under 13 or older due to the locks and type of fighting taught. My kids started in NYC, so they have continued when we moved to Vegas. Our 4 yr old is taught more TKD at home.
Never too old...My old school had a 2nd degree black belt that was about 75 yrs old....Do the math....he started in his 60s.

Never too late to learn. I've been a fan of martial arts for its techniques and applications. I think the best is Wing Chun, Muay Thai and Tai Chi. Master these 3 and you'll be quite invincible esp if you can apply the 3 different techniques as though only one form.

My son has been in Kuk Sool Won for four years. One of the black belts here us a woman in her 60's. A lot of the other ones are in their 40's some 50's. and of course a lot of young people and teenagers, too. Plus children as young as 4. It's a "family martial art", a lot of fun, and there are centers all over the country.
I would think that, at 17, you could particpate in just about any martial art you chose. Just stick with it!

It is never too late, if your motivation is to keep fit and healthy, by taking martial arts as a form of exercise and mental training. There is a suitable martial art for any age. Taiji for the elderly, more intense arts like taekwondo and kick-boxing for younger people.

True martail arts, yep your right never too late. (small story of a man in his mid to late forties after the navey was done with him he learned hapkido and taekwondo, and none of the kids {17 to 25yrs,} couldn't hold a candle to him. but if your refering to the things you see in the movies with the filps and things, well lets just say older people arn't as flexible and durable as the youth. but all that aside your only 17 you so be able to endure any style of martial arts you choose to enter. just be sure to enjoy it, and have fun.

It is never too late to begin.
Try to find a good school.
Review some previous questions in relation to finding a good school.
Try to stick with one style. Also, beware there are styles out there that claim to be martial arts but they are nothing more than a fighting sport.
For every dollar you have there are hundreds of rip-off artist who wish to seperate you from that dollar.

it truly is by no ability too previous with the aid of commence a martial paintings. only stumble on a school and ask the instructor a large number of questions. make sure you watch a technique. opt for a martial paintings via the instructor and what they tutor not the kind. the staggering martial paintings isn't any solid if the instructor isn't any solid.
