I ADORE Bloodhounds, but do NOT let the face or stereotypes fool you. These dogs are NOT the lazy lumps they are made out to be. They like to kept busy & unless you have a "BIG" WELL fenced yard I would reconsider the decision. They are loving & gentle, but they are also A HOUND!!! Meaning they are easily distracted if they catch a scent that strikes their fancy!!! They are a bit high maintenance & they do require quite a bit of attention. It sounds like you may already have your hands full. Think long & hard on this. Contact Bloodhound Clubs & get as much information as you can get. DO NOT just go out & get one because you want one. That is why there are sooooooo many dog rescue groups & WAYYYYYYYY!!!! to many animals in shelters.
THANKS!!!!

I had a friend who had a bloodhound and for a year she spent a lot of time with me. She was just a great dog. Easy going and friendly. Couldn't ever imagine that she would bite anything. The only bad thing is that she did drool quite a bit. Especially if she was panting. If you don't mind a little drool, you should get one. You'll have a really nice dog.

usually not the best pets, not that they cant be, they just wont listen. this trait was actually bred into them so they would follow a trail and not get distracted. they also howl, I find this sound beautiful, but many people do not. they slobber, so be prepared!! prone to ear infections because their ears are always dragging the ground, so keep them clean. may be too laid back for a 6 year old, but remember, there is no such thing a low energy puppy!!! there is too much info to outline here so so a search on the net and see what comes up. Happy Hunting!!!
