My dad is a hunter (deer, elk, ??). What would be a good gift for him? (No Cheney jokes please!)

About the best gift you can give him is your time and understanding. I will say this with 99% faith, the best thing you can give your father is to go out WITH him. wether you hunt or not. I'm sure that would make him the proudest father on the planet. It would show him that you WANT to be with him.

To most people who hunt, it is not only a passion, but a lifestyle. And another thing is it is something they WANT to share with the most important person in their lives.

believe it or not you being his child, makes you the most important person in his life.

My late friend came from Germany by himself as a teenage refugee after WWII and settled in N.California in the 50's. He hunted all over North America. Pete was not a trophy hunter, instead transported all of his kills and turned his game into SMOKED German and other European delicacies. Smoked Sausages, Air Cured Roasts, Cellar Hung meats, etc.

My suggestion. Find for your father old style lessons in books or CD's or Videos that instruct the hunter on how to make the kill go beyond the day of hunting. The use of spices , meat preserving and long term storage of wild game. Meats that don't rely on a need for modern refrigeration. Hunting then becomes more than just a day in the field.

you know any of these things would be good but if ya really want to touch his heart get him a gift card to his favorite sports store and then offer to go with him on a hunt. spending time with your dad in the field and letting him fill as if hes showing you that he truly is the great hunter will be priceless

Chris is on the money on this one. There is a growing number of females joining this great sport. If you don't like the thought of hunting yourself, maybe you could tag along with a video camera and make some memories.....priceless

If he does not have one get a scouting camera that takes deer pictures with a motion/heat detector. About $40 at Wal-Mart.

Hunters love knives, "Buck" makes some very nice ones, for a reasonable price...Take my word for it, if you want to know what would thrill your Dad more than anything, join him for a hunt...If you don't want to carry a rifle(?) use binoculars and spot for him...

Go hunting with your dad. Take a camcorder and record it. The bonding is next to none and you will have the video to re-live it.
