Yes, light colored clothing is better. However, wearing a light colored polyester shirt is MUCH better. It'll wick away the sweat from your skin and cool you off faster. If you're just day hiking, depending on the time of day, it might be wise to wear a thin cotton shirt on top of the poly shirt... just in case you get chilled if it's in the morning. Also, to help keep the bugs at bay, use either Deep Woods Off or a product that has mostly DEET in it with a percentage of more than 20% in it. Contrary to popular belief in the past, DEET is NOT harmful to humans now. Believe me! It came SO in handy a few weekends ago when it was 90+ degrees outside and I was doing a major 10 mile hike! I was sweating something fierce, but barely a bug bothered me: I was COATED in Bug Juice (found at my local REI store). GOOD LUCK HIKING!! :-)

Mother dear,
Both, as each kind serves its own purpose. Let me explain please:
DARK clothes keep you warmer becxause they absorb light more.
LIGHT clothes reflect or bounce off light (most of it).
Thus, light-colored clothes are best when hiking under extreme heat of the sun.
Depending on the the purpose or use, both types are best to be tagged along during campings.
