Are we a good people, a just society? Are there any other countries that are better?

Our system isn't perfect, but I believe it's the best on Earth. We are nearly always the first to respond to an emergency with food & supplies, we give away tons of food & materials to other nations on a regular basis in order to help them feed their people and defend themselves against aggressors. There are other countries who have similar ideology, but none can match the USA overall.

America is a land with a whole lot of different individual people in it. The strength is that it is a Democracy. But that is also a weakness. Government for the people by the people is an excellent ideal. Unfortunately, "the people" can't all agree on what the role of the government should be.

Is America a good country? Well, given that we've been blessed with every kind of climate, and all kinds of habitats (wetlands, tundra, tropical, desert, etc), yes that is good. The land is fertile and we are able to grow tons and tons of agricultural products. The land is rich with minerals. We have everything we need to be self-sufficient (even oil in Alaska). So the land is very good.

The people.... ok, well, some of the people are good, some are bad, some are mediocre, some are downright nutso, and some, like me, are varying blends of all of the above.

Does that help?

of coarse we have come a long way, but often times the road was nasty. and not always the fault of others. we are a good people(generally) a just society(most of the time) some countries might have a few better policies. for example some european countries give their new mothers up to 18 months off after having a baby versus our 6 weeks and they even give fathers up to 12 months. some countries have better laws for criminals(in my opinion). you get cought stealing once and you go to jail, not a slap on the wrists. they have stiffer penalties for adultery(which in america people do it with no so much as a blink of an eye). to say that we have always been a great country would be a lie because history tells us otherwise, but we have become a great country.

I have been doing alot of research with people who hate America. This is what I found..Most people and I can safely say at the very least 90% hate American politics. They have no problem with American people it's the Government they don't like. Needless to say America is the leading country in the world with the most civil liberties for it's citizens. I am proud to live in this great country and it's by far the best !

Yes, but we are a wealthy country. That will always attract jealousy. That is common in human nature and those less fortunate will try to turn any common good into a negative. That is called self-rightousness and probably the most dangerous type of human behavior.

The last time the majority of the world was in favor of the U.S. was during the Marshall Plan. The U.S. spent a large sum of money on rebuilding Europe. When the cash flows stopped.....I think you get the pt.

Every country has it's faults and America certianly does. But it is the best country in the world to live in because of the freedoms we have (which we have recently been taking for granted), the opportunities we have to suceed, and the diversity of our people. Why else would everyone want to come here? For all of the USA haters there are in the world, everyone sure bangs down our doors to get inside that we have to push them back with fences and militia. What other countries have that type of clammor?

I think that one thing that some other countries have over us however, is their sense of culteral history. It is wonderful that we are "the great melting pot" but the US has some any distinct groups, that I don't think there is a real, unified culture. Not like in Italy or France. In Italy for example, there is a sense of unified tradtion that makes it feel like everyone has something in common. I think we lack that.

It is the very best there is. Home of the brave and
Land of the free. You can be anything you want to
be here. You can own a home and/or a business
and build it up anyway you want to. You can get
an education for almost endless professions. There
is beauty abounding in almost every state of the
Union. People here are basicly good, friendly, hard-
working, helpful, family friendly, hospitable, giving
for all sorts of needs, and a country God has heretofore
blessed. People have talent that's hard to believe in
all the arts (music, art, crafts, sewing, painting, acting,
etc). We have so much to offer. We're the most generous
Country in the world sending money to other places in the
global world to fight Aids, Hunger, Disease, Poverty etc.
We have a climate for everyone (hot in the south, and
colder as you move north). Sports abound and fans love
and support them. There are more things about America
that's the best, than I could ever enumerate.

America is a great country so are most of its people. we do need to improve in some areas as a society but for the most part we are doing fairly well I cannot say the same for the people currently running this country though they are some of the worst ever Hopefully the people of this country will make some necessary changes to our current government officials in the next elections and things will improve.

Well John: Many countries put up fences to keep their own people in. To keep their own citizens from escaping. America has to put up fences to keep people out, or else we would be completely inundated with immigrants. If we're such a bad place why do so many in the third world want to come here? Because there is money to be made here. Because you can go where you want, worship or not worship, educate your children for free, vote for your leaders in a free and open election, (well, except for when the republicans steal the election).

We're hated by all the osamas out there because we don't cut peoples heads off, or make our women wear veils and long hot clothes while we men strut around in short sleeved shirts. You decide if we're a good country or not. Use logic, not terrorist propaganda.

We are a good society and people, but our leadership is declining in quality.

There are aspects of other countries that are better. The dutch are best in environmental care. Another European country is the best in prison and rehabilitation. Japan has the best education scores, but unfortunately the poorest handling of stress.

The US is not the world leader socially in any area. We are leading in science and research only because of the resources dedicated to it and other countries have dedicated resources that could eventually overtake us.
