Christians do. And if you consider fasting as a form of abstinence, Jews and Muslims do too. Buddhists and Hindus also abstain from meat, so it seems like most religions have some form of abstinence, one way or another.

If you mean abstinence before marriage then the answer is ALL religions. If you mean abstinence for your entire life then probably only the Shakers, an offshoot of the Quakers. I think there are about 2 left today.

As for the Catholic Church, they demand abstinence only for single people and those in the clergy (nuns, priests, brothers) only AFTER they have taken their vows. There are many Catholic clergy that are not virgins, but rather widows and widowers who took their vows after their spouse died.

I can only say for sure that the Christian church teaches abstinence until marriage...but I would put money on the Mormon and Muslim churches doing it as well. Jehovah Witnesses probably do. Can't really help you outside of those religions. Maybe Hindu and Buddhism.

I was raised Methodist, and I know it was talked about, but was never followed. Kind of a 'do as I say, not as I do' thing. I am now Pentecostal, and it is a huge deal. Abstinence is very important! People don't respect their body, and morals seem to have gone out the window...it's actually very sad. The youth at my church are all saving themselves for their husband/wife...and they are proud of it! Lord Bless...

The Shakers believed in complete abstinence. There's nothing left of them but some nice furniture. Ergo the conclusion that carrying any concept to its logical extreme can be less than ideal.
