I belong to a non-denominational Christian church that only teaches what is in the Bible so marijuana has never been mentioned in a sermon. But since it is illegal according to the Bible you shouldn't break the law by smoking it.
If a doctor prescribed it for a medical condition, that's a different story. As far as if it was legal, while it would then be a matter between each believer and God, for the most part it wouldn't be considered to be a wise practice since it interferes with short term memory and because we are told to be filled with the Spirit and not with intoxicants.
I agree with you that alcohol is a far greater gateway drug than marijuana in how it effects a person's ability to reason but it is less of a gateway drug in that a person doesn't have to associate with underground dealers who are eager to expand their profit margin by branching out into other illicit substances to sell when they purchase alcohol.

I agree, if I could change the laws, I would switch the legality between pot and alcohol, and I don't smoke pot or drink. I have , however seen great evidence as to what each one does to people and WOW am I on your side!!! I have never seen marijuana turn someone violent or into an idiot. I've also never heard of anyone dying from it. The people that drink, have been violent, very difficult to be around, they embarrass themselves and everyone around them, have major health issues, hangovers, drive and get into accidents, get arrested for their behaviour...I could go on. I do smoke cigarettes and I think pot is far less harmful.(you smoke less of it and it doesn't have all the chemicals that cigarettes do) I've never known of anyone to get lung cancer from smoking pot.I also don't beleive it leads to harder drugs, I think that is the company you keep (peer pressure) and your own desire to party harder.I've known too many people who smoked and that was it, I've also known ones who did everything else, you could ask them, it wasn't because of pot, though the pot has helped some get away from the harder stuff!I am a christian and I beleive that God will deliver us from addiction, any kind, when we are ready. I'm kind of up in the air as to what God thinks of marijuana, it's a hard call and not mine to say.

I am a Pentecostal I do not use any kind of drugs alcohol or tobacco. I feel like anything that you may ingest into your body should be in moderation. And you should not allow anything to keep you from your walk with God.
I do support the legalization of marijuana. It should not be a schedule c drug because it has proven medicinal uses.
Genesis 1:29
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

Christian
While I haven't studied the issue extensively, my first thought is that it's wrong (the Bible teaches us to be sober), but that it should be legalized. There are a lot of things I think are stupid and wrong (such as most divorces), but I don't think my opinions and religious beliefs should be foisted on others, unless there's a good non-religious reason for what I believe. I guess I'm a little more Libertarian than many other conservative and devout Christians.

I'm agnostic, but it really doesn't matter what religion you have. I was once a marijuana user, and I now see that it was foolish and wrong. That stuff messes with your brain and is a gateway drug to other, more addictive and potent drugs. If you buy into all that nonsense about marijuana being harmless and "OK", you will soon realize the time, money, and brain cells you just squandered.

I'm Wiccan and am all for the legalization, legislation and taxation of marijuana. It is valuable as an herbal medication and should be used as an alternative to other drugs. As a recreational drug, it should be treated as alcohol and tobacco is treated: legalized, usage legislated and taxed to all hell.If the FDA could manage to standardize quality, it would also be a safer drug that what it is now, where is can very easily be laced with other drugs.

I'm a Lutheran Christian and I do not believe that using pot is good and no, unless for medical purposed it should not be legalized.
I was a teen in the 60's the drug culture. And I know first hand the the use of pot can lead to a generalized malaise and lethargy.
You don't know that its smoke won't harm your lungs like tobacco.

Because marijuana is not as bad for you as alcohol or cigarettes is absolutely no reason to say therefore it is all right to smoke it. That is just a non-sequitur!! I do not think it is morally wrong to smoke it, as I do not think it is morally wrong to take a drink or smoke a cigarette. However, because it IS a hallucinogenic drug, and because it does lead one to take more lethal drugs like heroin, and because it IS psychologically addictive, I do not think it should ever be legalized.

I'm spiritual, not christian, I think marijuana should be legalized, I believe it is a lot less destructive to the body, the family and society than alcohol.
