My boyfriend is in debt right now because of a car accident, so he's struggling but making it by. I know that I'm going to marry him someday, but my parents don't think I will. They think he's going nowhere because he can't afford to go to college right now. Are they right for telling me he has no future? Is money more important than love?

Follow your heart---but also do not make the mistake of not discussing financial matters and responsibilites in your relationship. If your boyfriend works and pays off his debt, then I really do not see why your parents are negative about him, but then, parents want what THEY think is best for their child, unfortunately that's how parents are....so don't hold a grudge against them, they mean well, but they also have to learn that you and your boyfriend have a right to make their own decisions without them withoholding their love and support, because that's what life is about.

People do have a tendency not to talk about the important issues: money, expectations, and yes, sex. It is important to be honest and open about those issues from the start and it is equally important to learn to listen. Rather repeat what is said to you back as a question if in doubt, then to assume that you know what he means. Those are things that you can do already....You can talk about chores=expectations, finances=who is responsible for the electricity bill, who is better at handling our finances, etc.etc. The earlier you are able to work out good compromises for those incompatible things, the better. So don't listen to your parents, listen to your heart, but still be wise....Good Luck

Here's an Idea. Why don't you help your boy friend out by helping him pay for his auto accident bills. It will be a nice little experiment without having to get deep in a marriage and you will find out if he could be a suitable husband, and find out a little about yourself, too. After all marriage is a partnership revolving around love and a lot of finances

NOTHING is more important then love. i believe college is only for people who are going to become doctor's or something in the medical field and lawyers. if your going to college for anything else you'll probably end up working in a different field then what you wanted in college.
