Not necessarily. If you have unpartitioned disk space, you can create another partition and install XP on that partition. That way, you would have both 2000 and XP on your computer.

You can also upgrade from Windows 2000 to XP. When you insert the XP CD, it should give you an option to upgrade. It would recognize that 2000 is already on the computer.

Note: If you're planning to upgrade from 2000 to XP home, I don't think that can be done. If you're upgrading to XP home, you can do that.

You have 2 choices. You can upgrade from Windows 2000 to Windows Xp if you have purchased the upgrade pack. If you have purchased a full install pack, Windows XP will automatically overwrite Windows 2000 during the installation.

When u install xp. in think u got 2 options
1 Upgrade to xp: In this your windows 2000 will be replaced by xp.
2 Install xp in separate partition: In this u will have both windows 2000 and xp on your pc, and u will have option to use any of them at bootup time.
