I would venture to say that most people, both christians and non, have wrong Ideas about evolution. The word has many social connotations, but scientifically it is "a change in the frequency of a gene among a population." It is not "men came from monkies." It is not "Natural Selection." Natural selection is a proposed mechanism of evolution, not the definition of evolution itself.
There is also much misunderstanding about the meaning of "Theory" when refering to a scientific theory. Many people will shout about how evolution is "merely a theory" however to become a "theory" in a scientific sense the hypothosis must have been rigorously tested and must have proven to be predictive...among other things. There is little real difference in science between a "thoery" and a "fact" in the way of experimental rigour. A fact is a theory that has stood the test of time, that is all.

I was taught evolution in school. I remember the little pictures of the apes, going from left to right, standing up taller and having less hair until it was a recognizable man on the very right hand side!
Of course I know what it is. I do not believe that all life came from water falling on rocks for billions of years until something crawled out of the water onto land. Do I think there is evolution within a species? Yes, it's called micro evolution (birds evolve into different kinds of birds, etc.) But I believe the biblical account of creation. I have nothing against people who don't believe Genesis. I understand why someone would think that way.

Are you referring to the theory of evolution?
Theory to me means nothing more than an assumption based on limited information or knowledge; a conjecture.
Simply put, just an educated guess.
True Christians know Jesus Christ and have faith.
Faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you cannot see!
When Jesus was feeding on the river bank his disciples came to him and asked; Why do you speak to everyone in parables for not everyone understands.
Jesus replied; for it's not for everyone to understand. You ( meaning his disciples) have been given the knowledge.
A parable is a story with a meaning behind it.
Lets talk about theory now.
If theory is nothing more than a assumption based on limited information or knowledge; a conjecture.
Simply put, just an educated guess then we must examine the forbidden fruit issue!
Adam and Eve didn't have a worry in the world untill they ate the forbiddin fruit. Yes the dredded apple!
Where did this apple come from?
The tree of knowledge.
Knowledge has been mankinds downfall for years now.
I know all us guys like to blame it on the woman but we have to step up and take credit for the same mistake Eve made cause Adam didn't have to bite!
It's also note worthy to mention the old adage monkey see monkey do.
If us men in the world can't step up and accept blame also then the old adage just might lend some ammo to the evolution theorist and we don't want to do that!
In short, most christians are familiar with the theory of evolution but as a result of the Holy Spirit have been givien the knowledge to understand the parables of the Holy Bible and it's teaching.
Hope you have a broader understanding now.
I love it when the Holy Spirit uses me vehicle reach my brothers and sisters in Christ!
Peace!

Evolution has evolved since Darwin and you would have to pick a year and what it had evolved to at that point. The years of evolution has expanded to accommodate to the many objections over the years. I'm a christian and I have seen some of the evolution of evolution Evolution is not a reality. IT IS A THEORY AND THAT IS THE ACCEPTED POSITION BECAUSE GOD IS NOT IN THE DETAILS OR ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE THEORY

Some Christians believe in evolution and consider the Biblical creation stories to be metaphors showing that God created in the begining, then continued to create THROUGH evolution.

Yes, actually there is a lot of science behind their disbelief of evolution. All the scientist that believe in creation, and even the scientist who don't believe in evolution, are still scientist. Evolution is really in a weak position. Many of the scientist who refuse to believe in creation also do not believe in evolution. Many who do accept evolution, only do so because they have no other choice but creation. Evolution is just not as solid as some think.

Prove to me that actual Christians exist, and I will formulate an opinion on their supposed hate of evolution without comprehension of it. Frankly, I have only ever witnessed or met "poseur-Christians", as none of them are actually Christ-like. Have a nice night.

Christianity has a long history of excommunicating people who don't pay lip service to their theology. In the end though, the church comes around and accepts science. Evolution is just the current battle they are fighting in a losing cause.

Yes we know what it is.
It is faith in the impossibility that a series of random mutations can somehow against incredible odds assemble themselves into new life forms.
This despite the fact that NO experiment has ever produced a beneficial random mutation in any population where it can be show that it did not previously exist.

I actually aced the class I had to take in high school that involved learning about evolution. The reason for this? Because every point made in that class, I researched and found evidence in textbooks, etc to refute it. I did a point- counter- point article with someone in my school newspaper. (For those of you that don't know, this is basically where one person (me) writes an article making points for or against a certian topic, and the other (someone else) writes an article thats supposed to counter those points)...
In this article, the person countering against me didn't refute any of my points, but actually went against what the whole idea is and came up with her own points unrelated to what my article was on. Now, all of these points I could also have refuted, but once my article was written (the point), I couldn't edit it since hers was SUPPOSED to be the counter-point.... Go figure, she couldn't defend it, so she came up with other stuff to try to defend her point, which itself was unstable.
