if it is tacky and distasteful,, you already know
if it is for something good, and sincerely given,
it should be ok.

just don't take out your first date to dinner with coupons, and you will be o.k.

I think it's fine particularly if you know the person has been wanting to buy something from that retailer but thinks the price is a bit steep. A gift like this can make enough difference so they can go and buy it and actually shows some thought.
But if you just havent had (or taken) time to get anything, then I would recommend cash that the person can use for whatever they want.

If you mean gift certificates, we give them all the time. Just make sure it's to something the person likes. That way they can buy whatever they want. That's almost all we give anymore at C'mas. A really good one is a Visa gift card, they can use it wherever they want.

Speaking for myself & my friends, we love getting gift vouchers! It's fun getting to pick out something you like for yourself. You get to shop without spending$.

I think that's a great idea, people love being able to buy something they want and not feel guilty for spending money.

its fine, but why restrict someone to a certain store, why not just give them cash?...unless its a girl you are giving the cash too, you wont offend anyone by giving cash
