My mother-in-law chewed gum and jumped rope (not at the same time) to help stay off cigarettes.

I stopped in July 2010, best thing I ever did, really notice it in the purse! When I stopped I swapped having a cigarette for a pint glass of water - sounds plain but it worked! Everytime I thought about having one I went to the sink and filled up the glass, sometimes I sipped at it, some times I downed it. My skin became really clear! Give it a try! Keep up the good work! I tried at new year to have a smoke after a drink and it was vile!! Ive finally hit the point of no return, and if I can do it so can you :)

I don't know if this will work for you but....my friend's mom said part of her problem quitting was that she was so used to the motion. So, she would roll up pieces of paper (you could use licorice or a pretzel) and hold that or put it in her mouth so she could work through the nicotine addiction first. She claimed she missed the motion and that she needed something to do with her hands so she basically used paper to go through the motions without lighting up. I know this won't keep your mind off it necessarily but she said it was facing it head on. Either way your decision to quit is admirable! Good luck!

cool, good for you. I quit this past December, and I never thought it would last. The first month is the hardest. I started going to the gym, and that motivated me to not pick up smoking again. I also thought of all the damn money I was spending, and how much I saving. Take the money you're saving on butts and buy yourself something instead. Plus, I have more energy now, and it's pretty nice not coughing all that crap up every morning. Good luck!

Whatever you do don't think about living to 120 thusly spending 30 years regretting not smoking because you lived too long, that's what always used to get me!
Chew tobacco that'll learn you, and it kills the craving a lot better than the gum, when you've switched it's easier to give up than smoking.

One of my best friends was working on quitting in college. He got some Cinnamon sticks and had one in his mouth instead of a cigarette. He said it helped him not crave a cig, and he figured he could grate some into his cocoa if he needed to.

Good luck!

Suck on candy. Certs, throat lozenges, etc... It helps to keep your mouth moist. Secondly, start to fill a jar with the money you would have spent on cigarettes. Pick a date down the line that when you have reached it smoke-free, you are then going to do something nice for youself with all that CA$H!!

When i quit while i was pregnant, I had some straws cut cig size so my fingers were busy twirling one until I just got past all the cravings, and got over it. That really helped me.

Chew gum, go for a walk, and brush your teeth every time you feel like smoking.
